Stacy Evans was a high school dropout at an early age, and he’s going nowhere in life. He works a job he isn’t any good at, and has a partner with a jealous streak a mile wide and the bad temper to match. When Stacy’s mother signs him up for a course that will earn him his GED as well as train him for a new job, he reluctantly agrees to attend. Choosing woodworking will not only gain him a new job skill, but it will also lead him to the man who will inspire him to change his life for good.
Darian Drucker is a local business owner and woodshop teacher. When Stacy lands in his class he has an instant bond with the younger man. The best things in life aren’t always easy, but something about Stacy makes every step they take worth the hard working hours to get there.
Stepping Up to the Plate is a story full of emotion from one end of the spectrum to the other. Stacy’s difficult past continues to play a large role in his adult life, but with Darian’s calm influence Stacy grows and matures along with their relationship. J.M. Snyder has penned a beautiful tale of friendship that transitions to love. The characters have a realistic depth that make for easy visualization in the overall story. Readers can’t help but fall for Stacy and Darian as their story unfolds. If you haven’t been pulled into the emotion from the beginning, one perfect sentence spoken by Stacy’s friend, Ange, will do you in and leave you sniffling from that bit of heart felt and selfless friendship.
