Athan is the keeper of secrets. Alone and tormented by the ghosts of the past, he has no way to escape his existence. He knows where the bodies are buried, as well he should. Over time it has been his misfortune to dispose of each and every one. But of all the secrets he has kept, there is one that could bring his world crashing down around him. Athan was born twice over - once by the grace of God, and then by the hands of man.
Athan’s creators wanted the ultimate sex toy and with the perfect combination of alchemy and science, he was forged into existence. Athan’s requires substance like the average person, but the key to his survival is the sexual energy released during intimate acts. This give and take of power allows him to maintain a healthy balance and survive another day. So in essence, sex can be considered Athan’s secondary source of air, for without it he would truly die.
Dr. Korrie Odell is a researcher for the Morgan Institute. Since the tender age of sixteen, Korrie’s has wanted to work on the Ransom Project. Her late father entrusted copies of pages from Dr. Sheba Ransom’s personal journal. Each page gave Korrie details on the project, its progress, and the subject being tested: Athan. Korrie is as much attached to the work of the project as she is to the man. His image is instilled in her psyche and fantasies. Fantasies that Korrie knows only one man could ever fulfill.
Paul Cathcart is an opportunist whose work ethics center on using minimal labor to reap maximum rewards. Eventually he uses every trick imaginable to gain the Ransom Project. Paul feels the secrets it contains could make him a wealthy man. The one person who has access to those secrets, Athan, seems to be the first person who recognizes Paul’s selfish ways and refuses to be manipulated. While Athan enjoys Paul’s company enough to share his bed, he knows that revealing that he was created would come at too high of a price. Their constant companionship renews Athan’s strong desire for a mate who sees him as a man and not as a monster. Athan eventually has to face his demons and is left with the questioning if there could ever be too high of a price when true love is the prize.
Body Parts is a modern day Frankenstein with a sexy twist. Athan embodies characteristics of male perfection. He’s not only equipped with a strong sex drive, Athan has a giving spirit, caring nature. Korrie is sweet, caring, and was unrecognizable when her true passions were released. She was the quiet kid you always knew to watch, but seemed too innocent to do anything wrong. I was rooting for Korrie after gaining full knowledge of Paul’s deceitful ways. Paul, I will admit, has been put on my list of ten worse men characters. It wasn’t just what he did, but the underhandedness he used to move forward. And even after later discovering the deep issues that cultivated his cold heart, I couldn’t find myself feeling sorry for him. I think the book possibly could have been a bit better if the journal entries were a bit shorter. Though some of character's actions felt a bit predictable, Adrianna wove a web of deception that leaves you floored.
