They met at the tender age of thirteen. Their families would never have thought the two of them to be suitable. Julia is now to elope with her one true love, Alexander, but first they must meet beneath their special apple tree. One more love-making session in the spot where she first took a foray into womanhood and her greatest joy turns to great sorrow within an instant.

The apple orchards are not the same but her memories of that night remain brilliant as ever. Now she is with her children Fiona and Edward but her heart remains below the apple tree. Her children know that something haunts her thoughts but they aren’t sure what it is. Julia decides it’s time to share her deepest darkest secret. Wondering how her dear Edward will react is cause for concern but not a reason for procrastination. She owes it to the memories of so long ago- and a true love that never died.

Cassie Exline has found a touching way for this mother to reveal a deep, dark secret to her beloved son. The characters are realistic and loveable, especially Julia. Learning about her secret and why she lived with it for such a long time was so well worth the read. This story has it all- setting, likeable characters, and a plot that will intrigue readers within all genres.
