Government Project Dawn has been disbanded for three years and Zack and Ace, along with the other remaining members of Circe’s Recruits, are still fighting to clean up the mess left in its wake. Pearson Labs continues to create more of the genetically altered Circe’s, none of who are sane, unlike Zack, Ace and their friends. The scientists at Pearson are determined to not only explain why their creations are insane, but why the others aren’t. To that end, they are willing to do whatever it takes to find answers, and if that means they need to capture members of Zack’s groups…well then, so be it.

Being a Circe means only being able to attain sexual fulfillment during their mating heat by sexual intimacy with another Circe, whether male or female. During these heats, Zack and Ace have turned to each other, but it hasn’t been easy on Ace, who has multiple homophobic leanings, due to his upbringing. It’s taken years for him to accept his feeling for his friend. Just when they’re getting their relationship on a solid footing, they find that Kelly, the woman they’ve both been lusting after for years, is also a Circe. Zack and Ace are finally able to claim their woman but hurt feelings and wounded pride get in the way, endangering not only their threesome relationship, but Kelly’s life as well. The two men must come to terms with their differences or risk losing everything they value most…Kelly and each other.

Circe’s Recruits: Zack and Ace is the second release in Marie Harte’s new and ongoing series. It’s a fast-paced tale with a unique and interesting plot that kept my interest from the first page to the last. The bad guys and their minions are just as dastardly and unsavory as before, still striving to find a way for their Circe’s to gain the upper hand and woe to the people who get in their way. That mindset means kidnapping, torture and scientific experimentation to the sane Circe’s they can get their hands on.

That being said, this story is fueled by the growing relationship of Zack and Ace, and Ms. Harte does an excellent job of describing the swirling emotions of both men. The level of intimacy between our guys is filled with lust and an underlying tenderness, unexpected of two such burly, aggressive men. Add Kelly into the mix and you have blistering hot passion that requires a fan to cool. Changing Kelly into a Circe wasn’t a totally unexpected twist in the plot, but the explanation of why she didn’t know it…well, that was an interesting slant. The secondary characters are one we met in Roane, and they add a feeling of family…of community that all plot participants need. I look forward to seeing where this series goes with the next release, Circe's Recruits: Derrick
