Heydn Case is a transfer student to a prestigious all-boys school. Unlike the majority that attends Acton-Pierce Academy, Heydn is not a silver-spooner. Hoping to finally fit in, Heydn is apprehensive about meeting his roommate. Like Heydn, Blue is also a senior at Acton-Pierce Academy. In order to protect himself from getting hurt, Blue has gone out of his way to alienate those around him. The last thing he was expecting was a roommate. To the surprise of both young men, they quickly bond over anime and yaoi videos. Soon they begin to develop strong feelings for each other. However, Heydn’s deep need to belong pulls them apart. It is only after Heydn sees the person Blue is becoming that he realizes just what he has lost. It will take a lot of trust, faith and love to bring these two back together.
Connie Bailey’s True Blue tells the story of two young men who wish to fit in at their private school. The author does a wonderful job portraying the angst these boys go through, not only as they struggle to come to terms with what they feel for each other, but also in the various relationships they form. The author also touches on topics such as bigotry, gay bashing, parental pressure and suicide. The secondary characters in this book are just as important as Blue and Heydn, making it a wonderful well-rounded story. The epilogue wraps up all the story lines in this book wonderfully. An excellent book not to be missed.
