Delaney is a Celtic musician. He and his fellow band members maintain the grounds of a music festival site in order to earn a little money and hopefully, pick up some gigs at the same time. During a nightly jam session, Delaney hears someone playing the fiddle; someone he has to find.

Robbie, a wild man, has not been human in a very long time. Robbie is used to being the prey for the wild hunts but this time, the Huntmaster wants something more. After meeting Delaney, Robbie is not sure he can comply with the Huntmaster’s orders.

Wild Hunt by Willa Okati is probably one of the most unusual stories I have ever read and while interesting at times, was difficult to follow. The beginning of the story was so busy that I was unsure what was going on and I admit I had to go back and reread some of it. While the characters, a mixture of humans and mythical beings, interact well, I did not feel as if Delaney and Robbie really got the chance to know each other. I did love the characters, however, and the author does a wonderful job making the characters feel real. When Delaney’s friend and fellow band mate Hugh meet the two men at the door in one scene, you can feel the disgust and anger he is feeling towards Delaney. While I did have trouble, at times, with this story, I do plan on rereading it and think fans of Ms. Okati should give this new story a try.
