In the New Mexico Territory in an area known as Deadmen Hills, third generation landowner Brendon Ridgemont comes upon another trespasser dead from drinking the toxic water. Tales of the Ridgemont’s wealth claims there is a gold mine in the barren region, so men continue to come, eager to steal the bounty. However, there is more at stake than the gold mine; the Ridgemont men are the custodians to the secrets of Native-American shaman Calenza, a duty that causes major conflict between Brendon and his lover, Eduardo Rivera.

Ride the Man Down is the first book in A New World Shaman series. This is an intricate story of Brendon and Eduardo and how family obligations interrupt their relationship, causing a rift between them, and then you have Calenza directing the family towards a master plan with an agenda known only to the shaman. Included in this in-depth plot of preservation is a wealth of man-love, magical illusion and a few creepy moments. I look forward to the next episode of this exciting series from the extremely clever and talented William Maltese.
