Annie Prescott promised her late grandmother that she would learn to play the piano. Despite her tomboyish style, Annie sets about keeping her promise. She signs up for private lessons with Widow Granger. She’s expecting an elderly cat lady…not a gorgeous young woman.

Emily Granger has always lived a predictable life, even before her husband Allen died from cancer. Meeting Annie, though, stuns Emily into realizing that maybe she still has more to discover about herself. Allen’s family, however—namely his brother Ken—might have other ideas.

Beyond Curious is one of the best lesbian stories I’ve read in a long time. It’s realistic and charming, with characters you fall for immediately. Annie and Emily couldn’t be more different from one another, yet together, they’re perfect. The love scenes, quite frankly, left me squirming. They were that hot! The things they deal with, outside of the intimacy, are things most couples take for granted: being seen together in public, acknowledging that there’s more to their relationship than meets the eye. I loved watching them both—especially Emily—deal with the reality.

Beyond Curious was my first book by Paisley Smith, but it definitely won’t be the last.
