Mike moves back to Chabegawn and ends up walking into a string of murdered animals and men.  Mike has also come back to claim his mate, Melanie.  Melanie and her family are also under attack.

The second book in the White Wolf series has a lot of twists and turns about two groups of wolves and The Call of a Soul tells about the legends of two groups of shifters that ended up going to war. Melanie’s family has a large role among the white wolves.

The suspense surrounding the murders encompasses several decades and actually surprised me once it was resolved.  The way Ms. Carlo wove the various scenarios gave me a surprise as I never would have guessed this particular twist.

Melanie is also a ‘maggishahwi’, someone who hears a person’s soul as they are dying.  She knows she is also supposed to be a healer, but doesn’t know how the two work together.  This fact has a lot of bearing within the story and a reader also learns the legends revolving around a ‘maggishahwi’.

The relationship between Mike and Melanie is hot and extremely intense.  Keep ice on hand as you will need it.  Some of their antics will also make you laugh and smile.  I think all of us would love to have a romantic like Mike in our lives.

Mike’s brother and Melanie’s brother were interesting characters and made for some lighthearted moments between them.  I enjoyed reading about a couple of the secondary characters and am looking forward to the next few books in this series.
