Private Investigator Nick Nowak has detached himself from his former life. Nevertheless, Nick’s former contacts refuse to allow him the melancholy solitude he thinks he desires.

Boystown 6: from The Ashes is part of The Nick Nowak Mysteries. The plot is slow moving with an emphasis on Chicago’s landscape more so than on the mystery. There is an interesting twist to the identity of the villain; however the subject matter is to some extent commonplace.

Nick is in a downward spiral due to the death of his lover, as well as guilt for his part in past criminal actions. Even though Nick’s dead lover’s mother, Mrs. Harker, did not approve of her son’s relationship with Nick, she still sought Nick out when her favorite priest died. All evidence points to death by natural causes, yet Nick discovered that there was something being hidden by the church. After going through the customary investigative process along with solving the case, Nick is persuaded by friends to return to his normal line of work again.

Marshall Thornton’s Boystown 6: from The Ashes highlights some of the real events happening in 1984 which serves as a reminder to everyone sexually active. Overall, the saga is enjoyable. One of the main features is the hypocrisy of religious traditions, parental bigotry, depression as well as rejection.
