Worth Fighting For

Author:  Cheyenne Meadows

Experience has given April firsthand knowledge of what it means to be abused, so she has a soft spot for others with the same background.  Instead of coming home with one horse like she planned, April winds up with two.  She finds the perfect stable for her horses, but the owner was proving to be a bit difficult.  His expertise with animals clearly didn’t extend to people, because the man wanted nothing to do with April.  She had no idea why the man didn’t like her.

It isn’t just April that Dusty wants to avoid; it’s all women in general.  Dusty’s life has been turned upside down because of war and women.  The unsettled tension between his brothers has left Dusty with only his dog and his stable.  April is the one person who might upset his normal routine and Dusty doesn’t want that.  She’s constantly underfoot trying to help, which makes it impossible for Dusty to ignore his attraction to her.

The nurse in April wouldn’t let her turn her back on anyone or anything needing compassion.  I was expecting April’s past to be more detailed, but honestly I’m glad it wasn’t as bad as I was imaging.  She was just so sweet, I would have hated to think of her dealing with more bad things.   Even though Dusty is bad tempered most of the time, April is drawn to him.  Something in his eyes touched her and April wanted to get to the bottom of his pain.  If that meant opening up about her own troublesome past, so be it.  To say that Dusty had been wronged by a woman would be an understatement.  Under the circumstances, I understand why he had sworn off relationships, even the one with his family.  When you add PTSD into the mix, that makes things worse.  Getting close to another human being was hard for Dusty, so it moved me to see how good he was with animals.  There is something about a man bonded with his dog that just makes me feel warm and fuzzy, especially if the man is smoking hot.

I fell in love with April’s horse, Mischief, and he was the center of some of my favorite scenes.  Dusty’s brothers also made me feel very comfortable and left me curious to know more about their lives.  Everything came together like a hand and glove in Worth Fight For.  The right amount of turmoil was added, without being so sad that I needed to take a break to calm down.  Things weren’t perfect for Dusty and April but I felt they dealt with everything perfectly.  This story will renew your faith in people and give you the hope that everyone can have a second chance.

Blood of a Leo

Human Leo Adams realizes he has a chance to escape the drug addict vampire who has kept Leo captive for months. Unfortunately, the vampire drug he was forcibly injected with is deadly to humans. Half dead, Leo stumbles into the alley behind the nightclub and falls unconscious into the arms of lion shifter Maddox.

Blood of a Leo is the first book in the Solomon's Pride Series. The plot is a vampire versus shifters action-adventure blended with shifter mating as well as a dash of humor. The characters are emotionally convincing. Leo is a gay man, disowned by his family and kidnapped by vampires to be a donor. Because Leo is able to endure the drugs forced upon him, he is especially valuable to vampire Mika, who discovered that by blending the drugs into his food source, Mika achieved a longer lasting high. Maddox is a very compassionate man whose cat side reminds me of a gentle playful kitten with Leo but a deadly enemy to anyone who threatens his mate or the pride. The steamy mating scenes are amazing.

Dawn H. Hawkes has produced a fantastic saga. I enjoyed Blood of a Leo immensely.

Game On, Game Over

John Jones is a MI6 negotiator operating in Tajikistan, near the Afgani border, and his assignment is to broker a deal between local tribal leaders.  He needs an excuse to be in the area, so uses his educational background as Aidan Whittaker and gets assigned to a university run archeological dig.  His mission is complicated by the arrival of an annoying reporter, Babcock, who asks too many dangerous questions and his photographer, Scott Landon.

Scott’s outgoing, friendly, fourteen years younger than John and determined to get in his bed. Unwilling to risk his mission, John rejects him. Then events spiral out of control when Babcock and Scott find themselves in a dangerous situation and in the aftermath, John and Scott give in to their desire and get closer than John imagined. But the region is filled with political unrest, leading to life changes John never expected.

Game On, Game Over is the first book by Chris Quinton I’ve read and after enjoying this well written and interesting story, it won’t be my last.

The plot is broken up into two distinct parts. The first portion occurs in Tajikistan. It’s fast paced, filled with intrigue and danger, has great archeological dig details and some interesting secondary characters. Anyone who reads action/adventure books will enjoy this section. The second portion starts with a brief look at what Scott does after the dig site evacuation and how he goes looking for John.  The biggest part of this half takes place in a small village in the English countryside. It has a slower pace and is lighter in tone, but still has great local history, wonderful townspeople and lots of great scenes as Scott tries to get closer to John…who’s now retired and going by Aidan.

I keep track of my books on Goodreads, and know from glancing at some of the reviews that a few readers found the two part construction distracting but I didn’t find that to be true. Instead, I found it totally realistic…the story and pace changing to fit the events in Scott and Aidan’s lives.

I like the instant chemistry between John and Scott in the desert. It’s believable and sizzling hot, even if John initially refuses to acknowledge their attraction.  The time in England is more conducive to allowing the guys to get acquainted, even if Aidan is again pushing Scott away. Rest assured they do get their happily-ever-after, despite their time together here being filled with self-depreciation, anger and humor. The format of this story might be a little unusual but I enjoyed it and will be re-reading it again in the future.

Space mercenary Daior Mathews is being held hostage, for reasons unknown to him.  Dai has already discovered there is no escape off of the tiny planet, so he waits to learn what his captive’s demands are. That night, Dai is surprised when the guards toss another hostage into his cell.  Terran is small, cute and instantly attracted to Dai.  Exploring their mutual attraction is a good motive to escape in Dai’s way of thinking, so he contacts his ex-lover Tam, who comes to the rescue.

Odd Man In features a future world where everyone had some form of technological enhancement, the most common being intelligence augmentation.  These enhancements have created a not-totally-human race of people.  The storyline is a fast paced, action-packed adventure in hide and seek exploits, spaceship battles, galaxy jumps and hilarious commentary.  There are moments of steamy intimate scenes as well as emotional insecurities. The characters are especially convincing.  Dai and Tam are very much alike in personality, which has lead to numerous conflicts between them, even to the point of injury.  Both men are protectors who object to being protected themselves.  Terran has a snarky kind of personality on the surface; however he is very lovable along with being the gooey centre that binds the three men together in a contented relationship.

K. M. Mahoney’s Odd Man In is an immensely enjoyable outstanding saga.

Even Average Joes needs a break from work every now and then.  As a master assassin, Death Bringer Tyr is in desperate need of some drinks and distraction.  The hole in the wall bar he’d chosen was the best place for him to go unnoticed and be left alone.  His plan might have worked if distraction hadn’t walked into the bar wearing a short skirt.

Arienne might look out of place in the bar, but she’s a woman on a mission.  She intends to find someone to help her, no matter what method of payment she has to offer.  Running the risk of being shunned by her family was a risk she’d gladly take if it meant she would live.  Ironically, her savior is also the man sent to kill her.

The bargain Tyr and Arienne struck up left me breathless and blushing. Those two really burn up the pages with their unbridled lovemaking.  At the beginning, I was wondering if Arienne was too tame for Tyr, but boy was I wrong. There are some unexpected twists that were far from predictable and I think they brought about a perfect conclusion to Death Bringer.  There were some moments I fantasized about jumping in to join in on some of the payback.   Karland and Azod are never shy about bringing the heat and I love the way they saw to it that justice was served.  Although this isn’t a series, I can’t help hoping to get a glimpse into the world of another hot hit man.  This is another great read from the duo that readers are going to eat up like candy.

Dmitry has been sold out by a woman who means the world to him. Four months ago, he woke up to find his bed empty and his woman gone.  Now he’s torn between making her pay and dragging her back into his bed.  His misplaced trust nearly got Dmitry killed and left him with one question that he desperately needs answered.  Why did she leave him?

Karri knew Dmitry would find her eventually and that their reunion would be a volatile one.  When her daughter is taken, Karri is forced to take action.  If she doesn’t give up the information that The Consolidation wants, her daughter will be killed.  Sacrificing the man she loved was the only way.  Unless Karri can convince Dmitry that she’s telling the truth, they are all in danger.  Will he put aside his anger and help her or has she pushed him too far?

Dmitry has built up lot of anger toward Karri, but also anger toward himself for still wanting her, even though he doesn’t yet know the reason she betrayed him.  As much as I understood his position, there were moments I felt Dmitry’s treatment of Karri was too rough.  Fortunately, he got a grip on himself before he crossed a line that would make me dislike him.  Once he knew what happened to Karri’s daughter and didn’t miss a beat in wanting to protect her, I easily forgave him.  Part of me can’t help wishing Karri would have had more faith in Dmitry from the beginning.  However, the mother in me easily understands her reasons, so I just can’t find fault in her decision.  I was relieved by the loyalty she and Hawk both had for Dmitry, although there were some moments I had doubts.  Hawk has piqued my interest and I’m looking forward to reading more about him.  It seems that he might have met his match.

Vodka Shots is the second story of the Wanted series, but I think it can be read as a stand-alone story.  Readers will have no problem connecting with the story or the characters.  I found it difficult to pick one side over the other.  Marteeka Karland does an outstanding job of making you feel what Dmitry and Karri felt, because their emotions literally jumped off the pages.  It would be impossible to decide which character I liked more, because I bonded with them both, but for different reasons.  The balance of action, turmoil, and hot sex was perfect and it left me wanting more.  I am sure readers will agree.

She might look like the girl next door, but Mali Abrams is a whole lot more than that.  Running a jewelry business makes bookkeeping and bank runs part of her normal routine.  As Trinity, a vampire assassin, Mali works hard to rid the world of werewolves,   although her track record is a little less than perfect, as far as kills are concerned.

Dante is also Killer, a wolf who’s gone to a lot of trouble to get locked in close quarters with Mali so he can terminate her.  One minute, he has the upper hand over the vampire and the next, all Dante can think about is the possibility of running his hands all over Mali’s tempting body.

Blackout is another brilliantly written addition to the Assassins in Lace series that will leave readers chanting for more.  As a vampire, Mali is still considered young, but there’s nothing inexperienced about her feminine wiles.  And Dante’s stamina can put the Energizer Bunny to shame.  As a couple, vampires and werewolves make a very passionate pairing, and I can’t get enough of them.  One unguarded kiss or bite could end it all, but that only makes their romp more arousing.  I love the way Jocelyn Michel gives brief updates of the couples from the previous stories and the humor she weaves in.  The way Mali and Dante utilized their time locked in the vault just might make me tremble each time I pass a bank.  I pray the feud between vampires and werewolves never ends.

Katalin Petrova has suffered so much in her life.  Until recently, she only had her sister to look out for her but now, Katalin has found her mate.  Gabriel makes her feel things that she longs to explore.  But until Katalin is able to control her power, it’s too dangerous for her to be around Gabriel. How long can she avoid the one person who makes her feel safe?  If this complication isn’t enough, Katalin is also plagued by danger from her past that threatens her new pack life.

Sheriff Gabriel Dunham is tired, mentally and physically.  The lack of sleep and sex is taking a serious toll on the shifter.  Gabriel would do anything to protect his mate, even if it means sleeping outside her home in his truck.  Claiming her is all Gabriel dreams about, but the timing is definitely all wrong.  Katalin is way too fragile and Gabriel intends to shield her from harm however he can.  If that means staying away from her for now, then so be it.

Even though she doesn’t feel strong most of the time, Katalin is a fighter.  It takes some time and a lot of drama, but eventually Katalin learns to control her gift.  Up until this point, her gift has been nothing but a curse in her eyes.  Gabriel turns out to be the biggest help to Katalin and this brings them closer together.  Just as they reach a comfortable spot in their relationship, Katalin and Gabriel discover that the enemy has been nearby all along.  With the support of the pack, these Lycan lovers are able to find the happiness they deserve.  There’s also the introduction of a sister and brother who receive help from the Wolf Creek Pack.

Lawman, the fifth story in the High Plains Shifters series, has hooked me like a rod and reel.  I’m always touched by the tenderness these Lycans have for their mates, just as I’m impressed with their strength.  There are some very adorable scenes between Gabriel and Katalin, especially when he is trying to comfort her.  There were times when they were both overcome with emotion and I got to see the strength of their bond, even though they barely knew each other.  Between the action and the romance, I was pleased with Gabriel and Katalin’s ending.  As always, Regina Carlysle has created memorable characters that left me feeling like a member of their pack.  The possibility of more strong and sexy shifter men keeps me hoping for another story.  There’s some unfinished business and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.  Readers will agree.

Thief of Hearts: Tempted in Thailand

Trent has lost his writing mojo. The death of his partner has caused him to withdraw from society and it has finally started to show in his romances. When his friends decide it’s time for him to join the world, they send him on vacation to Thailand.

Reed was supposed to pick up a map that would lead him and the local crime boss to the fabled Ruby Buddha. What should have been a simple job becomes anything but when the map ends up in the wrong backpack. On the plus side, the mistake leads him to Trent and Reed can’t help but be drawn to the sexy writer.

Romance readers always knew that the story’s hero would always be one of the ‘good guys’ years ago. However, today it has become popular for the heroes to have a bit of ‘bad guy’ in them. That unknown element is one of the things that make Thief of Hearts: Tempted in Thailand an entertaining read. From the start of the book, it is unclear just where Reed sits on the scale between good and bad. You know from the moment he shows up that he’s after a map that inadvertently ends up in Trent’s backpack. You also know that it is important for him to get it back or all kinds of hell will break out; however, you just can’t help hoping that he isn’t as bad as he appears. The connection between him and Trent is evident from the beginning and with the rough times Trent has been going through, you want him to find a happily-ever-after with Reed.

The author’s ability to make the men’s adventures come alive and the mystery surrounding the Ruby Buddha will hold your attention until the end. There are some interesting secondary characters that help flesh out the story and will cause more than a few chuckles.

Thief of Hearts: Tempted in Thailand is an interesting and fun story to read. I can’t wait to see if the author has a sequel planned, as I am sure these two would not have any problems finding more trouble to get into.

Border Patrol Officer Manuel Ortiz kept his ability to shape-shift into a red-tailed hawk a well guarded secret. He refuses to allow family or co-workers close enough to know about his abilities. The thought of ostracism frightens him.

Border Patrol Agent Alex Macalister is used to keeping his own secrets and those of the members of the Paranormal Operations Unit. They operate under a “don’t ask, don’t tell” rule but all the agents know how to keep the other’s council, which allows them to work well together. Alex is sure that being teamed with Manuel has something to do with abilities he doesn’t want advertised. Is it enough to make him want to keep Manuel as a partner? If Alex can get over his loner ways, he might find out that being teamed with Manuel could have him soaring on Wings of Love.

Deirdre O'Dare The Thin Green Line series is back with another interesting tale. We are once again on the border between Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico, where the illegal activity is increasing. Shape-shifters team up with aliens in this installment, giving the border patrol agents an adventure they wouldn’t soon forget and creating an interesting story for those of us who enjoy dark-fantasy.

The combination of action, suspense and a budding relationship between Manuel and Alex kept the story flowing from beginning to end. Alex isn’t a complicated character; he’s just a man who enjoys his own company. He grew up sheltered in one aspect when it comes to learning about his abilities and understanding how to use them. His way of performing his job may seem strange to others, but Manuel figures out how to go with the flow.

Manuel lacked the opportunity to share his abilities with a trusted loved one and Alex filled that void. He learned to enjoy his gift even more over time. Finally having someone who “gets it” made him a stronger man. It was nice to see some of his and Alex’s defenses melt in the wake of the other.

The cameo appearances add to the story without distracting us from our main characters. I found Wings of Love a well written read that touches on the subjects of the importance of friendship, faith, and trust.

Never let it be said that a Trammel can’t stand on his own two feet. That’s the message Greyson, Grey to his friends, hopes he is delivering to his family. He wants to live life on his own terms and finds himself in Alaska to begin his career as a sports-and-feature writer. Grey recognizes musher Dylan Norgard as a way to make his dream a reality. However, a few bad decisions could end his career and shorten his life expectancy.

Dylan is a loner and has no room for anything but racing and his dogs in his life. Healing has been a slow process, but the love of his dogs has given him a strong foundation to begin a new life. He recognizes Grey for the greenhorn he is and while he has reconciled himself to stay away, fate has other plans!

I’ll be the first to admit that I know very little about the world of dog racing, but I know a story that is written with heart and draws me in when I read one. Love Is Snowblind is just that type of story. Grey has grit! While he makes mistakes, he’s man enough to not make excuses and is willing to rectify problems, regardless of what it takes. Dylan is gruff, but even he cannot deny what type of man Grey is. His shell isn’t hard enough to allow his heart to escape the inevitable. They are a perfect mixture of sweetness and salt, like an erotic PayDay candy bar ready for me to unwrap and devour.

There was no aspect of this story that I didn’t enjoy. The harsh beauty of the landscape took my breath away while the secondary characters charming personalities stole a piece of my heart. Deirdre O'Dare has added yet another wonderful story to the Canine Cupids series.

For assistant curator Ian Tunbridge, the trip to a California dig site was supposed to be uneventful. Awakened by gunfire and running for his life truly contradicted that perception. What seems like miserable luck changed when he meets American photographer Lucas Arpini.

Lucas knew Ian’s expertise would be the key to finding an artifact believed a myth. Now, if he could only gain Ian’s trust, Lucas is sure they can escape their captors and discover the location of the artifact.

Two men, one hair-raising adventure and danger around every corner make Aries: Riddle Me Wicked anything but a dull story. Vivien Dean takes us into the lives of Ian and Lucas, two opposite men who rely on each other through this journey. Their different strengths and personalities kept the story flowing, as much as the chase of the villains. I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I was so caught up in the adventure that I had hoped to see the men reap the rewards, but their eventual desire to spend more time together soothed that one ruffled feather. Overall, I found the story to be well written and plotted and enjoyed it immensely. Those who enjoy action and suspense will enjoy reading Ms. Dean’s latest release.

Twilight is a mystical time, where wondrous things can happen. Lakota Native Cade Montana is a horse whisperer who manages a small spread in Wyoming. His love of animals has always created a peace in Cade.

Dr. Lee Donaldson remembers vividly the first time they met and his instant attraction to Cade’s strength and ability to tame wild horses. Over time, the men become friends and lovers.

Cade’s introduction into his new abilities makes him sadly aware that there is no room in his life for Lee. The penalty of revealing the truth to an outsider is death and Cade would rather break Lee’s heart than to cause his demise. While Cade plans to keep his distance, Fate has other ideas and won’t allow the lovers to suffer forever.

Carolina Valdez takes us to the picturesque Mountain Valley, Wyoming for a delightful story about love and acceptance. Lee is a good man with a heart filled with love for Cade and the animals he works with. Cade understands horses, and working on the ranch, he knows the dangers of predatory animals first hand. It was hard to side with either man during some of their conflict, because both had valid points. While I could understand Cade’s fear of telling Lee and reluctance to continue with their relationship, I was unsure if being alone was the right decision. Fortunately, part of Cade understood that sometimes you just have to trust the one you love.

Twilight is a well-written story, which encompasses a sound plot, brilliant setting, and fantastic characters that pull you into the thick of things. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story and believe those who read this genres will be elated they bought the book.

Theirs is a bond that spans the length of time…

First-year Border Patrol officers Rhys Davis and Liam Malone are part of a triad of best friends. Their small unit, formed since the second grade, has strengthened over time. The hidden desire Rhys and Liam harbor to be more than just simple friends has always been close to the surface for both men. The feelings that pull Rhys and Liam are too complex and coupled with memories of a shared past have the men considering their relationship was destined to be more.

Their first assignment has them on the trail of a Soul-Eater. Do those visions contain the knowledge needed to defeat the being? Will the friendship survive this new level of intimacy?

Deirdre O'Dare’s new release Beyond the Shadows takes us into New Mexico, near the Arizona border. I’ve always loved the brilliant hues of that area and could imagine the breathing Southwest backdrop. This was the perfect area for the story. The magnitude of destruction and havoc promised this would be a spectacular battle, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Rhys and Liam’s bond was established and made taking the next step in their relationship believable and unrushed. Their friendship has a great balance and I could see moments where they drew strength from one another. Their connection was so pure, untainted by lust or desire, and supported by an undying love. Rhys and Liam’s emotions spilled out on every page and I knew there was no way the Soul-Eater could win against their love and devotion to protect not only each other, but those in the Soul-Eater’s path.

Beyond the Shadows has a well-developed plot and mixes dark fantasy with action and suspense to create a fascinating story. I would recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal gay erotica, with a touch of chills and thrills.

Keiran Hareldson is the sole surviving draegan lord. After years of oppression, the draegans and humans are ready to wage war against the high sorcerer of Velensperia. Keiran knew it would be a difficult fight, but he didn’t expect to find love.

Gaige Rizik, the former captain of the sorcerer’s High Guard, is now true mated to Keiran. He has difficulty accepting his new role and powers. To have so many look toward him for leadership after years of being the enemy leaves Gaige humbled.

Keiran’s abduction is proof to Gaige that he cannot survive without the man he loves. Gaige acknowledges the importance of protecting his people, as well as the significant impact Keiran’s return would have on their mission. Will Gaige find a way to save Keiran, or will he have to learn to rule his people alone?

M. L. Rhodes’ third release of the Draegan Lords series, Fires of Ballian, will leave you aching for more. Gaige’s past actions leaves him flawed and believable, making him less than perfect, but ideal for his role. I’ve always shied away from a “too perfect character” and that’s not an issue with this series. This is Gaige’s chance for redemption. Over time, he begins to recognize his strengths as a draegan, human, leader and mate. Keiran puts his people’s welfare above his own. He is clearly the type of leader anyone in war would hope to have on his or her side. The bond between the two is solid and the anchor that will help them through this trying time. You could feel their love and passion throughout this well-written story. Ms. Rhodes adds action, suspense and steamy sex to this paranormal tale, making it a wonderful addition to the series.

Chicago has a new murder, and the South Side’s normal amount of danger has drastically increased. Homicide Detective Cullen Ryder knows finding the culprit is important, but discovering that the chief has formed a task force to handle the case leaves Ryder a bit flustered.

Vice Detective Trevor Stone is heading the new task force. With his killer body and looks, Ryder knows the man will be the next start of his late night wet dreams. The two begin their interaction on a clearly wrong note, but soon Stone and Ryder learn they have more in common than they ever could have expected.

Night Shift mixes action, suspense and a healthy dose of erotic roll play to create an impressive read. I’ll just admit at first, I didn’t think Stone deserved Ryder. More importantly, I didn’t think Stone’s ego would move over enough to allow anyone else into his heart. His attitude, at first, reminded me of why I don’t like some men. The arrogance and self-important attitude just put me on edge. I understood Ryder and sympathized with him. He sure didn’t win any jackpots, besides in bed, when he first gained Stone’s eye. However, eventually, it all settled down, allowing the men to move forward. The men prove that your partner doesn’t have to be perfect, just perfect for you. Jenna Byrnes has written yet another entertaining story sure to please her fan base, while drawing new readers.

Troy understands poverty; it prodded him to succeed at his dreams. Regardless of the size of his bank account, he won’t ever forget his roots or those he loves. A chance encounter with a Chihuahua and her equally captivating owner, Juan will change Troy’s solitary existence.

Juan is trying to escape his past, but it’s not poverty that dogs him as much as it is his enemies. Juan wants to enjoy his new freedom and the company of his newfound friend. While that may seem like a tiny request, it may cause disaster for not only him, but Troy as well.

Deirdre O'Dare latest story, Burrito Belle's Gringo Guy, is a wonderful addition to the Canine Cupids series. Juan is a man with dreams and the determination to make them all come true. He didn’t allow his past predicament to hinder him. Troy has no time for love and believes it would slow down his progress. After watching him with Juan, I was happy that he wasn’t given an option. Their feelings grew slowly over time and while you may not get a glimpse into their every day interactions, Ms. O'Dare does a wonderful job of showing the effects of their blossomed emotions. At the heart of those feelings is the too-cute-for-words sassy Chihuahua. I think Cupid needs to find a new job! The story has a wonderful balance of action, suspense, and erotic encounters. I loved reading Burrito Belle's Gringo Guy and look forward to reading other stories in this series.

Never Leave Me (4.5 Nymphs)
Reaver started hunting demons at the young age of sixteen, and he can’t tolerate helplessness in others; people who will not fight for themselves. When he comes upon a girl that killed two demons and she is shocked into speechless, he wants nothing to do with her. This girl is able to invade Reaver’s dreams, learning everything about him, and showing him what kind of person she is. Now that he has taken her where she can get help, he feels as if he’s finished his job, allowing him to get on with his lonely life. These two characters develop a hot sexual relationship on their travels together, and bond more than he thought could happen to him.

Duty & the Beast (4.5 Nymphs)
In denial of her Werewolf heritage, Sofie, a police officer, continues to say that she is human and that she doesn’t believe in the paranormal. She is working on a case about a vampire murder and calls in a consultant, who is an Elf. Sofie is determined to keep their relationship a working one, and eventually has to acknowledge her true feelings. Finn is an irresistible elf, and draws sexual attention from all. When he meets Sofie, and finds that she only wants to work on a case with him, he was disappointed.

Unholy Trinity (4.5 Nymphs)
This is a story about what can happen to you when you put your trust in others and are betrayed most of the time. Paige is having a hard time trusting anyone, thanks to her Mother’s years of betrayals. Now she has Jamie as a best friend, and not a boyfriend, but he’s in love with her. While on an archeological dig, Paige encounters a Vampire, Rafael, who happens to be Jamie’s boss. Rafael goes too far with Paige as they are having sex, and in his crazed state of mind rips out her throat. These three become lovers and after their emotions go from being angry to acceptance, they find a budding bond that will last forever.

Maneater (4.5 Nymphs)
It’s really hard being a siren, along with being able to change into a six-foot eagle with a human head, and she has the dating skills of a praying mantis by eating the men after sex. Chloe manages to get away from her mother and aunts and heads to Las Vegas, to live her own life, away from them. While checking into her hotel, she sees Alexius, whose parents were a human and a God. He’s being paid to follow Chloe, and to keep her occupied until he turns her over to be part of a harem. The outcome of this story is not what I expected, but even better.

Sundown International (Collection) is just a fascinating as the previous books written by Cat Marsters that I’ve read. All four stories are beautifully written with a lot of mystery, steaming sex, and murders. I was pleased with all of the history that was given, telling me the background of each character. I want to say here that I really enjoyed every moment reading Ms. Marsters books, and I’m anxiously awaiting the publication of the next one.

Trinity Staten and her two lovers, Newton Price and Merlin Davitch, are still on the run from Trinity’s psycho father, Jessia. Dealing with Newton’s distance, Merlin’s experiments and her own hormonal imbalance add more stress to the situation than one pregnant woman should have to endure. Just when things start to fall into place, Trinity discovers new details surrounding her pregnancy and her body’s reaction to being away from her lovers. She refuses to allow anyone to cause more disruption in her unstable situation. They are trying to stay one step ahead of Jessia and his henchmen, but he’s always lurking in the shadows like a leopard on the hunt. Will Jessia become the victor or can they possibly gain the peace they all deserve?

Double Shift is Hannah Beckham’s third installment in the Shift Work series. Trinity’s roles as lover, mother and future ruler have mellowed her enough to understand what’s important while she comes into her powers. Her family’s safety and wellbeing are Trinity’s top priority. There were a few surprises that I didn’t see coming in this episode and I’ll admit I had to read those portions twice. Ms. Beckham knows how to keep you off balance. Moreover, while the ending was as I anticipated, those scenes added just enough spice to make this book anything but predictable. This fast-pace story mixes action, suspense, and erotic play that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
