For Jade, a one time child performer, having to leave the theater is devastating. Forced to take a job as personal secretary to Marcus Wynterbourne, the beautiful young man finds himself hating everything about his new surroundings. All that changes after he meets his new boss. Although he feels completely out of place in his new surroundings, Jade soon learns that maybe the things his Master can give are just what he has been looking for all along.
Precious Jade is an interesting look at the BDSM lifestyle during the Victorian era. For Jade, who is the Victorian equivalent of many of today’s former child stars, the relationship he forms with Marcus quickly moves from that of boss/employer to Master/slave. Although no innocent to sex, Jade is innocent to the new world he finds himself in and the author does a great job portraying Jade’s insecurities while keeping his innocent, slightly vain personality intact. Marcus, on the other hand, is one of those characters that readers will either love or hate. A Member of Parliament, Marcus comes across as cold or unfeeling. Unfortunately, a past relationship has taught Marcus to guard his heart. When a misunderstanding tears these two apart, the reader can’t help but feel for the two men. In a time when alternative lifestyles can get you arrested, sometimes it makes the relationships all that more meaningful. If you are drawn towards stories with a BDSM theme, give this one a try.
