30 Days to Syn

Title:  30 Days to Syn

Melina would never have considered answering the ad in the paper if not for her brother. After seeing Melina’s picture and finding out more about her, Syn never considered any of the other applicants to his ad and he suspects she will be the one he is looking for.

30 Days to Syn is an emotional fast paced story.  As readers find out more about both Syn and Melina, they will fall in love with both.  I know I did.  There were times when both were also very infuriating, especially when dealing with each other, but I was glad that Melina stood up for herself when necessary.

Most of the secondary characters are wonderful friends, but there were a few that were just bad.  I hated Olivia, and Jack was the worst kind of friend Syn could have, and it became very clear why toward the end of the book.  I also wanted to know what happened to Jack. As the story progresses, readers discover why Syn’s friends are as close as siblings and I admired their loyalty.

The author created a scenario that allowed feelings to develop without a lot of sex which sometimes clouds judgments. Once Syn and Melina get together, the chemistry burns the pages.  Because of the insecurities each have, I can understand how the misunderstanding happened when it did, and I am glad things finally worked out for the two.

Even though 30 days to Syn is a stand-alone book, I want to find out what happened to Syn’s friends and more of their stories.  I hope the author is planning some in the future.

April can’t forget the two men she spent one night with over a year ago.  After being in Horn Hill a month, she runs into Rick and Adam again. They pick up where they left off with a few bumps along the way, one of which is her job.

The seventh book in The Service Club series, Diagnosis Pleasure, brings April to Horn Hill after she left her job in Birmingham, because of the hostile atmosphere.  She takes her new job very seriously and doesn’t want to jeopardize her reputation.

Rick runs into April at the store, then has her follow him home.  Adam and Rick can’t believe this is the woman they haven’t been able to get out of their mind for a year.  They realize they have their work cut out for them if they want to keep her in their lives.  When they get together, the chemistry is intense between them.

April runs across a similar situation in Horn Hill like the one that forced her to leave Birmingham.  There is one major difference that gives April a lot of relief about her future.  A couple of secondary characters help with the situation, but I couldn’t believe what the one person did especially under the circumstances for the farmer.

I recommend readers read the series in order to get the most out of it.  This is one book in the series that can be read alone, though.  I am looking forward to reading more about The Service Club and Horn Hill.

Misunderstandings

After spending six years with the SEALs, Dan and his fellow SEALs have settled down in Cedar, Colorado.  The men he has served with have become his second family and he’s going to need every one of them when a past he never knew about comes to light.  The one person he never thought he would need in his corner, however, is Dallas, his CO’s pilot.

Misunderstandings is the first book in a new series by author Angel Rothamel.  The series, SEALs of Cedar, Colorado, will be centered on a team of SEALs put together because of their sexual orientation.  This first book starts with Dan.

Dan is now a mechanic and like the rest of the men in his ‘family’, more than capable of taking care of himself.  Because of that, when he is hit with unsuspecting news, he has no problem turning to his CO for help.  That will mean spending time with Dallas is just something that he will have to deal with.

Early in the story, readers learn that there is major conflict between the two men, although the reason behind it is not clear right away.  The fact that both the men are strong, alpha type individuals also means that neither is comfortable taking the first step to clear the air between them.  Once they do decide to clear things up and look into starting a relationship, they really heat up the pages.  But the misunderstandings that existed in the beginning of their relationship are not the only ones they have to face, as the author throws a couple of twists into the story.

When Misunderstandings starts, Dan finds out that he has a family he knew nothing about.  Rather than being a good thing, however, it becomes a case of having to deal with the demon seed.  The author did not pull any punches with this part of the story.  I could not believe the way some of these new family members acted, or the lengths they would go to in order to get what they want.

Misunderstandings was a very good story, one that pulled me in from the beginning.  The various men in the SEALs team were intriguing and I can’t wait to read the rest of these books.

Hazard’s Dare

Title:  Hazard’s Dare
Author:  Frances Stockton
Publisher:  Ellora’s Cave

Genre:  {M/F}, Light Bondage, Contemporary

Avery has decided she wants to break out of her ‘goody two shoes’ image while she is on vacation in Dare.  She is shocked when she walks in the Truth or Dare Club and sees Hazard singing on stage.  Hazard is blindsided since he thought Avery was engaged, and then sees her walk in to the club wearing a red dress.

Hazard’s Dare is related to the Ink and Kink series that includes the Alexandria Griffins football team.  While Hazard’s Dare is not part of the series, several characters show up or are mentioned from the series to give readers a glimpse of how some of the characters interact with each other.

I had to laugh at a lot of the references about how Avery’s brother, his husband, and some of their close friends might react when they discover she has a relationship with Hazard.  The way the author shows the changing emotions Avery and Hazard have toward each other, love and relationships, is so realistic, I thought I was listening to some friends telling me their story.  The chemistry between the two is hot, and neither was afraid to switch roles when they were at Jaxon’s house.

Even though I guessed that one of the characters was going to play a part in the suspense of the story, I was surprised when he actually did and for the reasons he did.  I was also surprised about how and who resolved the issue.

Ms. Stockton has written a great story, and I think readers will enjoy it very much.  I am looking forward to reading more from her series, and also more about some of the other players for the Griffins in the future.

Blake Theriot had given up on finding the man of his dreams; the last time Blake was in a relationship was two years ago. When Professor Greg MacIntyre moves in next door, Blake realizes Greg is his dream man. Unfortunately, Blake cannot seem to gather up the courage to actually have a conversation with Greg.

Astronomical is a budding romance story. The character description is very amusing. Blake is an extremely tidy man who was forced to adjust his routine when his adolescent niece needed a part time sitter, plus Blake adopted an abandoned dog who grew to be large and messy. The one issue Blake has yet to overcome is giving up sexual control to his partners.  On the other hand, Greg is exceptionally adaptable; he has no control issues when it comes to intimacy.

Silvia Violet has created a delightful saga. I especially enjoyed Blake’s niece’s manipulations of Blake and Greg.

Dutch is not fond of flying, but this trip to New Orleans was necessary. Also, the trip proves to be the beginning of life changes Dutch never expected to make before he met the charismatic Rustin.

Cocktails is a heartwarming romance illustrating “coming out” gay men. The characters are creditable. Dutch’s life is torn between hiding his true nature, meeting his manipulative mother’s expectations and dealing with the grief associated with the loss of his beloved aunt. The amorous feelings Dutch has for Rustin gives Texas rancher Dutch the courage he needs to finally step out of the closet. In some ways Dutch had become a replacement for his father. By running the ranch, Dutch’s mother could escape responsibility and blame for any failure. Dutch was so buried in duty it took a little New Orleans magic to open his eyes.

Even though Rustin was in the closet in small town Michigan, he never lost sight of his dreams. When opportunity knocked, Rustin answered by announcing he was gay to his parents, then promptly moving to New Orleans. Dutch and Rustin are a good match; Rustin provides the emotional support Dutch needs while Dutch provides the stability of a relationship Rustin desires.

Jeff Erno has created a wonderful saga that, on the whole, I enjoyed.

Luke and Simon met while in college and have been together every since. When Luke returned home to take over the family ranch, Simon was right there with him. Now, ten years later, the men are learning just who their friends really are.

Morning Report by Sue Brown was a very good story. Luke and Simon have been in a relationship for ten years. Although they live in a small Texas town, the men believed that as long as they did not flaunt their relationship, everything was fine. When the new minister shows up and things changed, the men’s lives changed as well.

This is a story that has a realistic feel to it. The stress felt by not only the main characters, but also many of their family and employees, is wonderfully portrayed by the author. All the emotions Simon and Luke portray are believable and readers will understand Luke’s difficulty in forgiving their so-called friends. Unfortunately, the men also have to face problems on the ranch, as a result of the sudden bigotry. Just as unfortunate is the fact that these are all problems that many have to face in reality.

Morning Report is not all angst, though. Luke and Simon are deeply in love and the strong chemistry between them leads to some intense sex scenes. Readers should be aware that there are moments of light BDSM in the story, as well.

While the ending of Morning Report seemed a little rushed, that will not keep me from looking for more stories by this author.

After ten years of touring and recording studios, lead singer Johnny Rayne says goodbye to the rock music industry. Buying a farm in West Virginia, Johnny is hoping for anonymity. Making his rounds, Sheriff Virgil Grissom notices the big moving van at the previously vacant farm house. The moment Johnny said hello, Virgil was in lust.

A Change of Tune is a well written story, with a little kinky sex interwoven. The characters are mostly believable. As a rock star, Johnny was accustomed to a staff of people catering to his every whim. He is in denial regarding his sexuality until he is forced to acknowledge his attraction to Virgil. Johnny’s behavior images an idealistic, pampered adolescent when it comes to making life changing decisions; he relies on others to tell him what to do.

Virgil’s persona intimidates people, which is an advantage for his profession. However, he has difficulty demonstrating any sentiment other than lust in a relationship. I did not get the impression of love between Johnny and Virgil, more like friends with benefits. JM Cartwright has created an interesting saga intermingled with humor and mild emotional turmoil, as well as a touch of BDSM.

Ellery is no man’s submissive! The Dom is well known and respected by those from the local leather bars. He is no longer willing to take second-hand knowledge of what happens to the subs when they enter the lion’s den. He hoped his “sacrifice” would allow him to gain insight on the pride. Surprisingly, one lion in particular, Kefir, peaks his interest.

Kefir attended the sacrifices out of respect but was delighted he was there to witness the big man being presented to the pride. Ellery is powerful, confident and radiates a dominance that Kefir was unaware humans could possess. Will Ellery have to change his dominant ways? Will Kefir be enough to keep the big man happy?

Ellery’s Duty is the third installment of the Thrown to the Lions series. Kim Dare definitely surprised me with the angle for this current release. I enjoyed watching Ellery and Kefir interact and find the perfect groove for their unique situation. Kefir still has a great deal to learn about humans. While the meetings have given him some knowledge about dealing with human males, they have not prepared him for a man like Ellery. Ellery believes in taking care of what he deems his and Kefir’s name is quickly added to that exclusive list. The two fit together perfectly. It was like enjoying an erotic version of a Pay Day bar, a little saltiness mixed with just the right amount of sweetness.

The story has mild doses of BDSM during Ellery and Kefir’s erotic encounters. They are more sensual in nature than anything. One scene in particular during the prides sacrifice made me squirm in my seat. It made me wonder how many lions wished they were in Kefir’s shoes at that particular moment.

Hints about the future release were dribbled sporadically throughout the tale, giving just enough detail to ensure the story will be a juicy one. I’m anticipating the next release Ms. Dare so bring it on!

Private Detective Troy Maxwell knew he should walk away from the job. He knew no good could come out of falling for the man he was sent to spy on. But that didn’t help Troy keep his distance. There was something about Rafe Morgan that called to Troy’s heart and awoke his body. The horse breeder’s lazy-hipped stride, handsome face and body honed from years of hard work won Troy over in the blink of an eye. But when the truth is revealed, will Rafe find a way to accept Troy in his life or is he doomed to walk away and repair his broken heart?

K. M. Mahoney knows how to bring a sexy cowboy to life. Troy's Surrender was not only understandable but inevitable. Rafe is a good man that understands the importance treating others fairly and with respect. Troy is more than meets the eye. His ethics kicked in and he knew hurting Rafe would be the worse possible outcome to the scenario. Together this couple ignites the pages with their raw passion.

The fast-paced story’s likeable characters and believable storyline made it a hit and I plan to read more from K. M. Mahoney in the future.

Deminic wants a challenge; something to conquer, a goal to achieve, a person who makes him ache and submits to him with their entire being. He’s tired of the subs at his usual haunt. They all seem to have the same practiced actions and he’s bored to pieces.

When he arrives for what he believes are negotiations he discovers Blade. From his initial reaction, Deminic is sure Blade is a submissive, but something about the encounter helps him to recognize the truth; Blade is there against his will.

Deminic remembers the fire in his eyes at first contact. He wants that reaction back. He wants to make the pretty cat man purr. Their lively moments together are filled with passion and will leave Deminic devising a plan on How to Steal Blade.

This is Jade Archer’s second story in the Contact series. Blade’s sharp tongue leads him into trouble that leaves him panting for more. Deminic is a determined Dom with strength and money. He is on top of his game in the boardroom and bedroom, so there is no topping for the bottom where Deminic is involved. Both have conflicts to overcome; Deminic’s trust issues and Blade’s desire to be submissive kept the story flowing and interesting.

The men make an interesting couple and their sensual scenes have a light dose of BDSM. Blade and Deminic’s emotions evolve rapidly and it’s understandable when you consider everything they both have hoped to gain suddenly appear before their eyes. I hope to see this couple reappear in a future installment of this series. How to Steal Blade is a great read and a wonderful sequel to What To Do With Lore.

Fernando and his big brother Gerry have a lucrative deck building business. Gerry handles the paperwork and clients while Fernando handles the labor. It’s an arrangement that works until Fernando meets their latest client, Malcolm.

Malcolm is too hot to be a stuffy professor and has Fernando breaking his brother’s rule against fraternizing with clients. But what seemed to be a mutual attraction dulls quickly leaving Fernando to wonder if Malcolm has changed his mind.

When Fernando is left to handle the project, Malcolm once again turns up the heat. One hot afternoon with no one to block their interaction, the men allow their passion to overflow. With very different backgrounds, can they find a happy middle ground for their relationship to grow?

G. R. Richards’ The Brothers Of Hogg's Hollow is part of the Working Stiffs series and has become one of my favorite stories, thus far. The scene where Fernando first meets Malcolm had me doubled over from laughter. It left little doubt that not only is Malcolm a sweet man with a good heart, but that he truly wanted to get to know Fernando.

Fernando was a sport about the encounter and I’m sure the embarrassment would have made others refuse to return to the site. I loved his character because of his sincere desire to keep his family whole and happy. His ability to put everyone else’s needs above his own made him a target for his brother’s high-handedness from time to time. The family drama added spice to the story and showed just what the brothers were made of.

There is one scene where Fernando and Malcolm are watching a movie. When it was described, I could see how parallel their love was to that of the characters they were watching. At that moment I knew they were perfect for one another and there would be no turning back.

The setting moves primarily between two locations with a quick dash to a third. Each location was perfect ambience for a budding relationship. G. R. Richards describes the settings just enough to set the scene and then makes the couple the focal point once more.

If you are wondering which story of the series to start with I would recommend The Brothers Of Hogg's Hollow as one of the top three to begin with.

Not satisfied with her job, Claire knows that her boss is not being honest about her research results and she is not about to stand by, watching him take the credit. She is not good with human interaction and when she is persuaded to go out with her co-workers to celebrate at a night club, panic starts to set in. Her boss, Gordon, comes on too strong to her and Ed, the handsome bouncer, comes to the rescue.

Now that Ed has made himself her protector, Claire accepts his offer and they slowly start a relationship because he doesn’t want her to be repulsed by his need to protect her. They find themselves on the run; she is faced with the reality of being without a job and needing Ed to give her the right answers for their future. After he rescues her from her apartment building fire, and numerous murder attempts, they are forced to find refuge with another of Ed’s friends, who holds the same secrets as he does.

Experimenting with Ed is a short story of a lab geek and a genetically altered man, who find love while on the run to survive the danger following them. This is the first book in the Human Design series and I am waiting to get more insight from the next story on why or how Ed was genetically changed. This story is not so forthcoming with much history on either of the characters and I felt they came together by chance because of Claire’s non-existent social life.

Claire’s shyness towards people wasn’t unique for a lab geek, but she made an effort to overcome it. Her honesty, and trust is a plus too, had me liking her even more. She had her moments when she forgot to be shy and she became hell on wheels.

Ed is a reserved person, hiding from authorities who want to use him for their own reasons, and his protectiveness of Claire earned him big points from me. It made sense to me why he tried to be nondescript when he was around others, so as not to draw unwanted attention and he has a humorous side.

This is a nice story by Ms. Allen and she does a great job of storytelling. Her plot is well thought out and making it more believable for me. The romance between Ed and Claire is steaming hot with a little BSDM thrown in and left me needing a fan and cool drink afterwards. Ed introduced one of the five men that are with him, Darwin is his name, and I think his story will be a good one too.

Zachem'zen, a Creation on the run from peacekeepers, has been enslaved and made to work as a brawler in an underground fighting pen. Despite his brawn, he’s a submissive at heart and his nature leads him to desire the newest member of Colony6.

Tarn “the Destroyer” has grown tired of policing the rogue Ebrellions and wants a bit of action. Working undercover for his nephew lands him in Colony6 as a slave, but it also leads him to his soulmate, Zachem'zen, “the Beast”.

Marie Harte’s Creation series keeps getting better and better. I love the latest release, Caging the Beast. Both of these characters are strong men. There is no favorite between the two main characters, each brought something unique to the story and kept me on the edge of my seat. Zachem’zen wanted love and to be able to trust someone not to use him. After reading more about him, and watching Zachem’zen interact with the main and supporting characters, it was hard not to like the giant of a man. Tarn is the type of man you would want to rescue you from the depths of a pit. He is a formidable fighter and a superior lover who knows what’s important to his mate. I could feel their emotions pouring off the pages. If you enjoy futuristic gay stories with great fighting scenes, then you are in for a treat.

Charles loves the Wild West and cowboys, in general. If he could have arranged it, he would have been born wearing spurs and chaps. However, luck is on his side and he gets to dress the part for a costume party.

Simon can’t believe his luck. He has no qualms about being gay but he has never considered makeup and sequins part of his accessories. To attend a costume party is one thing; however to attend it in drag quite something else.

One look at the Asian man and Charles was hooked, so it only seemed appropriate to point Simon in the direction of an Indian princess costume. Will the fantasy end at the stroke of midnight?

Simon and Charles make a fun couple. From the banter to the erotic scenes, I enjoyed this story from the first paragraph. Their meeting had me chuckling and shaking my head. Nevertheless, one look in Simon’s big brown eyes and Charles was ready to stake his claim. Simon won me over immediately. He knew his limits and thank goodness, they weren’t hard lines drawn in the sand but flexible. He learned so much about himself in this story, and it was nice seeing him get in touch with a part he wasn’t previously aware of. Lynn Lorenz knows how to write a well-plotted story with fascinating characters. My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys is entertaining and well worth a read. Pick up a copy; you won’t be disappointed.

Taylor Jax has been warding off Shane Griffin’s advances for a long time. Sure, she’s attracted to him. Who wouldn’t be? He is one fine example of the male form and in the time she’s gotten to know him as a customer in her store, he seems a great guy too. He’s just too young for Taylor and she fears that if she gives in to him, he’ll get bored with her eventually. She can’t risk her heart getting broken but her concerns don’t stop her fantasies; fantasies her friends are trying very hard to help make a reality.

After a game of Truth or Dare, Taylor finds herself in an adult store with a list of goodies to purchase in order to make her fantasies come true. Does Taylor have it in her to let go of her worries and seduce the secret man of her dreams? Shane has faith that it will only be a matter of time before Taylor sees how perfect they are for each other and when she finally caves in, he’s going to be more than ready to step up to the plate.

One Tasty Night is the sequel to Mistletoe Studs and focuses the attention on Shane’s pursuit of his dream woman, while his brother Brad’s escapades with Meg having been the subject of the previous book. Ever since Shane mentioned his feelings for the older woman Taylor in the first book, I was intrigued and so was excited to see a sequel had been written. I wasn’t disappointed as the anticipation, eroticism and satisfaction was all there. The chemistry between Taylor and Shane was well written as I could easily believe that they had known each other for a while and that the mutual attraction had been bubbling away nicely the whole time. The “interruption” of characters from the first book during the pair’s first date was nice and added to Taylor and Shane’s building frustration. When they do finally get to explore their feelings – phew – it’s going to be One Tasty Night that might just make both of them realize how much they’ve been missing.
