Not Her Type

Despite the fact that John is nothing like the type of guy she usually talks to, Jenny has slowly built up a friendship with her local courier. It’s not surprising really; John seems okay, and he makes her feel at ease when he’s around, delivering her regular supply of movies. Of course, it could have something to do with the little matter of John being involved in every one of Jenny’s increasingly steamy sexual fantasies. And she’s been having a lot of them…

When John shocks Jenny by admitting that he’s been thinking similar thoughts about her, Jenny finds herself with a proposition there’s no way she’s going to refuse. The sex is every bit as erotic and satisfying as she imagined, and luckily for her, John is more than willing to keep up with the “special deliveries” from now on.

It’s everything that Jenny could ever have asked for – regular, no-strings-attached, mind blowing sex with a man who lets her explore her every kinky need. Just as long as neither of them go and do anything silly like let their hearts get involved.

Not Her Type is a well-written, very hot and satisfying read. Jenny’s an affable character who I could relate to and who had an interesting back story. John was a little more mysterious, understandably so as the reader experiences almost everything from Jenny’s point of view, but I did wonder on more than one occasion if I could actually like this character. I enjoyed the deepening sexual relationship between them and loved how their kinks were explored without a big deal being made out of them. There wasn’t the usual character conflict between wanting to explore their desires and wondering if they are weird or wrong for wanting it, which I am grateful for. And believe me, the characters do explore, at every opportunity. I won’t spoil it by mentioning all the activities Jenny and John get up to, but I do feel the need to warn of a particular scene involving water sports that I didn’t see coming. However, it was written well enough to pique my curiosity, rather than turn me off. I was just totally caught up in the idea of two people being lucky enough to live out their fantasies.

Of course, these things can never remain “just sex”, can they? Questions about where the characters can go from here are left unanswered in my opinion, but these things were never really going to be tackled here, as Jenny and John were far too busy getting their rocks off to care.

Vinnie Bernardi’s past gave him a healthy dose of pain, a dash of regret and a strong infatuation with his incredibly hot instructor. Leaving his wealthy family behind to recreate himself and live the life of a gay submissive was an easy choice. Now if he could just find someone to master him completely before his insecurities lead him down the road of destruction.

Charleston remembers Vinnie. His punishments came in regular intervals when those around them discovered Charleston had an iron fist and could take charge of the younger man. Now that Vinnie’s of legal age, the only thing holding him back from claiming him is Charleston’s complicated past. However, Vinnie’s ability to find trouble makes even Charleston’s careful planning fruitless.

Will Vinnie and Charleston perish before they can finally act on their attraction, or can the duo triumph over those seeking blood, pain, and vengeance?

Gathering Storm explores the life of a sweetly submissive man who enjoys topping from the bottom and a top who refuses to give up control. Charleston is handsome and rugged. He’s secure in his abilities as a man, a leader and a Dominant. Vinnie’s past is filled with false promises and quick goodbyes, causing him to act irrationally. I was hoping that Charleston would finally make Vinnie his sub. Someone needed to leash him before it was too late.

A few supporting characters, RJ the owner of the bar for instance, add the perfect touch to this story. Their presence accented the story rather than deflecting the attention from Charleston and Vinnie. There were moments where I wanted to hand RJ the whip, just to see if she would finally make good on her threat.

I found Lyn Gala’s latest release a wonderful read and recommend it to those looking for an engrossing D/s story.
