Three years after the official disbanding of Project Dawn, Derrick and the other member of Circe’s Recruits are still fighting the mutant Circes created by the government-funded scientists operating at Pearson Labs. The mutants coming out of the lab are still going crazy; only this new batch is faster, stronger, bigger, and more deadly than before, making their destruction even more difficult and dangerous.

Derrick’s life is turned on its ear when a woman working for Pearson Labs helps the captured Kelly escape. Sabrina Torrence is everything he wants in a woman. She’s beautiful, aggressive, stubborn, and not afraid to speak her mind…but she’s an enemy, and not to be trusted. It doesn’t matter that she helped with Kelly or provided vital information needed to destroy the lab. Derrick’s certain Sabrina has her own agenda and her refusal to tell the complete truth only adds to his desire to keep her at arm’s length. His human side might have trust issues, but his beast wants her as its mate. Can Derrick, the man, learn to trust the woman tying him in knots…the woman who makes his beast purr, or will he let hurt from the past destroy his chance for a happy future?

Circe’s Recruits: Derrick is the third release in Ms. Harte’s ongoing series and it’s just as fast-paced and sexy as the last. Derricks brothers-in-arms and their mates are still fighting the diabolical men who run Pearson Labs; only this time the news of the mutants coming out of the lab is much worse. Elliot Pearl, the man you love to hate, is still up to no good, making his Circes more deadly than any other version and his right-hand-man is a new mystery they know little about. These two make perfect villains and at least one of them gets his just-desserts in the end.

This story follows the growing relationship between Derrick and Sabrina, who worked for the hated Pearson Labs. The passion swirling around these two pulls them together, but Derrick’s mistrust of Sabrina’s motives just as consistently pushes them apart. Finding out that Sabrina has been unwittingly exposed and made into a Circe was a twist I should have been expecting. The other twists of finding out the identity of Doc’s half-brother and the revelation of Doc’s long-time lover were totally unexpected. The integration of all the characters previously introduced gave this ongoing plotline a real sense of a tight-knit family, allowed the reader the opportunity to learn more about the relationships of these dedicated people.

The passion between Derrick and Sabrina is aggressive, and hot, and only gets more so as the dark inner monster living inside Sabrina starts coming to the surface. This is the point where their already intense sex life becomes violent, as Derrick strives to force the stronger Sabrina into submission, in order to keep her dangerous beast under control. The introduction of new secondary characters gives me great hope for what I believe to be the last release in this exciting and intriguing series, Circe’s Recruits: Hale.
