Assistant DA Joe Grace flies from Los Angeles to Chicago when he discovers his best friend is accused of murder. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t seen Israel Jones in 18 years; he knows the man he grew up with, fell in love with and once upon a time made love to, could never commit such an act. The fire is still there and requires just a bit of kindle to help it burn bright and strong once more. However, so is the hurt Joe and Israel have let fester for all their years of separation. They will have to hash out the past before they can try to embark on a future, while working together to clear Israel’s name and discover the identity of the accurate culprit.

I’m truly becoming a fan of gay mysteries. Joe has compared every man he’s met to Israel and his heart and body knows they don’t measure up. Israel hasn’t completely moved on but he’s built a decent life for himself. While he wasn’t financially wealthy, he was blessed with friends. These friendships have alleviated some of Israel’s pain of not having Joe in his life. This was an interesting story, and while I wasn’t completely surprised about who committed the crimes, I was happy to see Joe and Israel relearn their love, and regain the closeness they needed. Still, Life is definitely worth a read.
