Sunny Shaw, the celebrity chef who has found fame and fortune with her cook books and TV shows, is trying to run away from her life. Catching her boyfriend Richard cheating on her with her closest rival can do that to a woman. He’s been trying to take control of her career since the start but she’d been hypnotized by his spell, until now. All she wants is out of the spotlight and away from the vile man once and for all so she gets in her car and just drives. Pouring with rain and with no clue where she’s going or what she’s going to do next, the neon lights of Blueberry Falls Café call out to her like a beacon. She may have found the answer to her prayers.
Café owner Brendan Dunne is also having a bad day, with his restaurant in serious trouble unless he can start getting a few more bums on seats and a few more bills paid off. When a beautiful woman enters his life and brightens up the miserable day, he can see in an instant that she’s had just as bad a day as he so he sets out to improve things, with delicious results. The pair hit it off immediately and as they grow closer, it seems as if things are finally looking up but you never can run away from your problems for long…
With an interesting, well written plot and characters that really hook you in, Hungry Heart is a very enjoyable read. The detail in which the author delves into the world of organic cooking, farming, running a restaurant and the life of a chef, famous or otherwise, gave me great pleasure. Mix in likable main characters that I cared about and a wonderful supporting cast and the result is a story full of drama.
In fact, the actual storyline was so strong that I felt the erotic aspect slightly distracted me. The first sex scene occurred a little too soon for my liking, taking away from the buildup of passion. Further sex scenes seemed added just for the sake of it and became repetitive after a while. That being said, the plot was more than enough to keep me reading and despite my initial criticism as the characters developed, the passion raised considerably and I would recommend this to fans of the genre.
