Mark Stevens is more than a little annoyed when his important business call is interrupted by a man asking him out on a date. Sure, he’s at a party and really shouldn’t be isolating himself on his cell phone and sure, the guy asking him out makes Mark’s heart skip a beat but still, Mark has always put business first. Mark knows it’s a bad habit but it just seems to help numb the pain of losing his partner that little bit.

When Drew Richards first glimpses lawyer Mark, he just has to introduce himself. He can’t quite explain it but Drew just wants to know more about him – a task that’s difficult when the man just doesn’t want to know. He manages to convince Mark to meet him for coffee and after some initial unease, the two start to feel more comfortable around each other. Mark wants to let go of the past and he appreciates Drew’s patience as he stumbles on more than a few occasions but he’s not sure he can give Drew what he needs and deserves – someone who will be His One and Only.

The fourth and final story in Shawn Lane’s Only series, His One and Only is the story of a man who thought he’d had his one chance in love, only to discover somebody completely unexpected throwing him a lifeline, if only he can be strong enough to take it. Drew was a very endearing character but it took a while to warm to Mark and I couldn’t quite get why he acted the way he did some of the time. Drew didn’t understand Mark’s behavior at times either and although misunderstandings can be good tension builders, I’m not sure it completely worked here. That being said, it was enjoyable to read about Drew’s family and upbringing. There is a lot of potential to Mark’s character and aside from not always understanding his actions, I found him to be a good guy with depth and pain in his past that drew me to him. I was willing Mark to find the strength to accept what Drew was offering him and was satisfied by the conclusion to their story. I loved the epilogue as it was a nice touch to the end of a very enjoyable series. It has been a lot of fun to inhabit a world rich in gorgeous men with kind hearts, good souls and wicked action between the sheets.
