Jealousy and fear has caused a rife between the Land of Earth and Fire and the Land of Air and Water. Centuries have passed for the prophecy to be fulfilled and for the balance to be restored.

Kaji, the king of Duiem, knows his duty and prepares to bond to a person he doesn’t love. Aniol is unsure of how he arrived in this dry land, but is sure he must escape the men intent on selling him into slavery.

One quick dash to freedom changes into an opportunity to fulfill a prophecy and discover destined mates. Are Kaji and Aniol strong enough to restore the balance, or is their bonding doomed from the very start?

Gatekeeper is a highly imaginative story created about two parallel worlds that rely on a delicate tie to prosper. The severed ties cause decades of misery and suffering on each world.

Rayne Auster may allow Kaji and Aniol to have an instant attraction but after that, the relationship slows and builds over time. Kaji isn’t ready for his role as a king until he meets Aniol and begins to see the errors of his ways. His normally fiery temper cools some and he begins to think through his actions, more thanks to his connection with Aniol. Aniol is shy and reclusive. After reading his background, it’s no wonder he’s not trusting or openly affectionate. The fire in Kaji is just what Aniol needs to begin to enjoy passion and to understand the importance of friendship.

Gatekeeper is a fascinating story with a well-developed storyline. The supporting characters add just the right elements throughout the story. There are at least two characters I would enjoy seeing appear in their own stories. Those who enjoy fantasy male/male romances with a paranormal twist will find this story well worth a read.

Things are finally going the way Jesse always imagined. His music career is going better than he expected and he has the love of the sexiest man in the music business. With everything going so well, Jesse begins to worry about what comes next. Will his next album be a hit or is he just another one hit wonder? Can his and Evan’s relationship become public or are they doomed to stay in the closet forever?

It is necessary to read Conquest, the first book in S.J. Frost’s series by the same name, before moving on to No Fear. If you have not yet read the first book, you may want to wait to read this review as there may be a spoiler.

That being said, No Fear picks up several months after the end of Conquest. Evan and Jesse have been on the road for some time and both men are looking forward to getting home. Their relationship is as strong as ever and both are eager to get back into the studio, once they have taken some personal time. The characters, both primary and secondary, are so well written that in no time, they will pull the reader back into their world. While the love and passion between Evan and Jesse is still strong, the author throws the men a few curve balls in the form of family problems, band issues and the appearance of rivals, both personal and professional. Rather than tearing our couple apart, the author uses these problems to bring them closer together. The love they have for each other comes across believably.

The many colorful secondary characters that help keep this easy flowing story going will also draw the reader’s interest. As the story progresses and these characters become as entertaining as Evan and Jesse, the reader won’t be able to help hoping some of them will soon get their own story. No Fear is an excellent follow up to Conquest and one that is sure to be re-read time and time again.

Andrea has a problem with men but wants to have a Dom. She is about to give up when a friend calls in a favor and gets her into Club Shadowlands as a trainee. She feels out of place, but is willing to do what is necessary.

Master Cullen does not want to train Andrea and decides he is going to scare her enough to make her leave. He finds she is willing to stay, even though she is terrified and reacts when a man surprises her. Master Cullen is surprised by the feelings she inspires in him.

Ms. Sinclair has outdone herself with this installment of the Masters of the Shadowlands series. Once I started reading it, I could not put Lean On Me down. The author puts you right into the story and you feel like you are right there as Master Cullen and Andrea find their way with each other. The author did a beautiful job of letting you know what was going on and Andrea’s reactions to Master Cullen. Andrea has a background that makes her wary of men and how people react to her. She has never learned to ask for help and this drives Master Cullen crazy. The chemistry between to two is explosive so keep lots of ice on hand.

The additional characters that were introduced added to the story. Though you can read Lean On Me as a stand alone story, I recommend you read the entire Masters of the Shadowlands series to get the most out of it. This is one that will be read again.

American book hunter Colin Bliss, on loan to England’s Imperial Arcane Library, is denied the opportunity to exercise his skills for them, so Colin accepts a commission from the Museum of the Literary Occult to find The Sword’s Shadow, a legendary and dangerous witches’ book of old magic spells. However, before he can locate the book, Colin must travel to the remote Isles of Scotland and solve an ancient murder. Imperial Arcane Library’s Magister Septimus Marx is also interested in Colin’s quest and does his best to convince Colin to decline the Museum of the Literary Occult’s offer.

The Darkling Thrush is an excellent example of mystery, fantasy and magic interwoven in a gripping plot that holds you captive from the opening to the very end. The well written plot builds by unveiling clues in each chapter. The true intention of each detailed character is shrouded in secrecy. A faery woman, a sinister adventuress and other creatures all play a key role in the storyline’s design. Colin is a scholar; his published findings are well received in the academic world and this is the only reason Colin accepts the mission. Colin has a natural curiosity and is highly skilled at book hunting. Although his first meeting with Septimus Marx left Colin the impression that Marx did not approve of him, Colin retracted his opinion when Marx seduced Colin on the train journey to Scotland. Because of the service he performs for Imperial Arcane, Marx is very good at hiding his feelings. Marx desired Colin from their first meeting; however his employer seduced Colin first. The more time Marx spent with Colin, the harder it became to resist him. The love Marx felt for Colin, along with their budding relationship, made his job impossible to carry out.

The amazing Josh Lanyon is a master of intrigue with a dash of romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this exhilarating suspense and hope to read more of these fascinating characters in the future.

Dr. Noemi Gastineau knows Rex and Rion complete her and is ready to build a future with them. Unfortunately, she finds herself trapped in a remote location with no way to return to her lovers. She is unable to feed her succubus and Azrael, the Angel of Death, has orders to end her existence. Will Noemi find a way back to her men before Azrael is able to inflict his lethal blow?

Belinda McBride’s Heaven is the third story in the Bad Angels series. We travel to a few continents in this latest installment, and Ms. McBride transitions to each new location effortlessly. Noemi coped well with all the revelations about her past, and her succubus and angel alter egos. Centuries of abuse, neglect, and loneliness took their toll on Noemi. And while most would have wallowed in pity, Noemi made each experience add strength to her determination and character. Wanting to share her life with Rion and Rex and missing her two lovers was a natural reaction, once you remember the true origin of both men. They make a fantastic ménage and create sizzling sensual scenes in the bedroom.

The ending leads me to believe there is either more to come in the series or there will be a spinoff soon to follow. If you enjoy paranormal romances with action, suspense and passionate erotic encounters, then you don’t want to miss Heaven.

The nights in Phoenix are just too hot for James but it isn’t only the high temperatures that are keeping him awake. James has longed to let his submissive side out to play but facing an empty bed each night means he’s been left with nothing but fantasies…until now.

One night, just as he’s finally falling asleep, a disturbance brings James quickly to his senses. Before he knows what is happening, a masked, leather bound stranger is looming above his prone form, ordering James to do exactly as he is told. Instead of fear however, James is highly aroused by this commanding man. He knows it’s dangerous but the adrenaline pumping though his veins spurs him on to make a suggestion to the intruder that might just make all his dreams come true.

Break and Enter is a fantastically hot short story about the fantasies of James, a man who is begging to be taken control of in the bedroom. This steamy, sweaty Phoenix night is the perfect setting for James’ fantasies to break free and the fact that the man who is going to fulfill those fantasies is a stranger adds the element of danger. I was a little skeptical at the believability of the plot to begin with but having satisfaction as the flavor of the day, plus a little twist at the end, made sure all doubts were laid to rest. With character and scene set very well, the resulting action didn’t disappoint and it was wonderful to read James’ foray into exciting new territory.

Louie is a former cop who is now a bounty hunter, going after people who skip out on their bond. She is assigned, by her partner, to go after Jamie McDonald after he fails to appear in court.

In the course of learning about Jamie, she meets his older brother Paul. They team up to find Jamie, but as the case goes forward, Louie finds that it ties in with her brother’s attempted murder. Louie keeps tying up all the loose ends but bodies keep piling up after Jamie is killed.

Dirty Deeds is a pretty good mystery with a lot of twists and turns. I did get a little confused at the beginning as the story did some skipping around but as it progressed, everything started to tie together. This story had several underlying currents that I would have liked explored. The author focused on the suspense of the story, as well as the various relationships that Louie had with those around her. Paul and Louie had lots of chemistry between them, but both question their feelings for each other. If you like mystery suspense stories with some twists, you will like this one.

Stefan Joss has been best friends with Charlotte Holloway since they became roommates in college. Now Charlotte’s getting married and wants Stef to stand up with her as man-of-honor. Stefan was delusional to think the ceremony would go off without a hitch. His boss wants to turn the trip into a business negotiation and the one person Stefan was promised wouldn’t be there, Charlotte’s older brother, Rand, is.

Rand and Stefan have snapped and snarled at each other since their first meeting and the passing years haven’t changed that. When Rand suggests a wedding cease-fire, Stefan’s shocked to discover he’s attracted to his arch-nemesis. Their chemistry is intense but Stefan’s still leery of his changed feelings, until Rand makes a confession that rocks both their worlds.

Becoming a couple isn’t easy. They have a huge and complicated wedding to get through; a business deal to work around and they now have to worry about being a gay couple in Texas, or at least Stefan has to worry. On top of all that, the elderly woman Stefan’s in negotiation with is murdered. The biggest shock is that the killer is also gunning for him.

Timing is the newest release by author Mary Calmes. It’s a fun, fast paced read filled with snappy dialogue and unusual wedding events that kept me reading from beginning to end. I must admit that Stefan and Charlotte’s relationship is a little over-the-top. The hugging, the kissing, the jumping on him and wrapping her legs around him when she needs the comfort of her best friend is a bit more than I expected. Yet, the personalities of these two friends meld and it works. But it’s not just Charlotte. Everyone wants to be close to Stefan. He’s calm, collected (except around Rand) and knows how to organize and work through a crisis, which is why his boss depends on him.

Rand might be a successful rancher but he’s also standoffish and has a volatile personality. While you’d never expect that these two could make a couple, Ms. Calmes gets the decade old enemies together in a believable manner. Okay, so maybe not totally believable but close. Haven’t you ever heard of the phase, bad attention is better than no attention at all, because that’s exactly what Rand was after from Stefan? If he couldn’t have Stef for his own, at least he had the man’s anger directed at him. Yeah, I know, but hey, life is stranger than fiction, so in reality, it’s totally possible. Read and enjoy.

French billionaire Max Dantes is on business in Houston when his assistant asks him to escort her to an exclusive sex-partner swap meet. Max had never considered sex with a man, so he is surprised when firefighter Chris Collins invites Max to his room. Debating the pros and cons for a moment, Max decides to try something new.

Swap Meet is an incredibly sensuous story of self-discovery. The well-written well-paced plot illustrates two compassionate men and the emotional test of falling in love. The characters are realistic. The intimate scenes are superb. Max lives a down-to-earth life of prosperity; he is not egotistical in any way. Before meeting Chris, Max dated women although he continuously felt there was something missing in the relationship. Max recognizes his fascination has rapidly evolved into love, as well as the desire to share their lives together. Max is very open to whatever will please Chris, so when Chris ends their budding relationship, Max is heartbroken but he understands why Chris left. Chris is in the closet at work; only his family knows he is gay. He takes pleasure in his job and is comfortable with his co-workers. He worked hard to become a fireman/paramedic. Chris has no intention of giving up his job for anyone. Meeting Max at the swap meet becomes more than the expected fling. Max exposes Chris to the kind of opulence only the very rich can present. However when Max wants an open relationship, Chris runs away. He’s not ready for a commitment or to face the prejudices suffered by open same sex couples from the community. Lolita Lopez has created a fantastic, exceedingly touching romance that I enjoyed immensely.

Danielle’s father is sending her to a church to punish her because he overheard her talking with her maid about fantasies not becoming a lady or her station. Her aunt is accompanying her as her chaperone. Because of her father’s circumstances and her own wildness, Danielle is sold to The Hellfire Club by her aunt, hoping to restore the family fortune.

The club is actually a place where the Fairefolk, Vampires and other fairytale creatures meet to maintain the peace. Prince Gabriel has decided that Danielle will become his mate, if she can pass the rituals that will be required of her for that to happen.

Primal Appetite, the first book in The Hellfire Club series, is a wonderfully decadent story that will keep you glued to the action as Danielle comes to accept the role of princess. The interaction of all the characters makes you want to find out more about them. The author transports you into the story as she describes the orgies and what is required of Danielle. I am so looking forward to finding out more about this world as well as Gabriel and Danielle in the future.

Young Reena Harrison’s parents sent her to live with her uncle in England to spare her the violence of the war going on in the Colonies. Her uncle is dressing her as a child to avoid unwanted attention but she developed a woman’s body at an early age and she’s found the man of her dreams, Joshua, at a party of a friend. Little does she know he is attracted to her also, but feels she is too young to be courted. Every time she is out at a function over the years, she runs into him and her attraction doesn’t lessen.

Joshua Sinclair is taken with Reena from the moment he sees her. While being hailed a war hero, he submerges himself in handling his own businesses and he also acquires a business partner. He’s lonely after the death of his wife and child, and still finds himself without a mate a year later. When he’s invited to Reena’s coming out party, he feels it’s still too soon to venture out, knowing he has been suppressing his love for her. Joshua still thinks of Reena as a child, but knows that she is a woman in truth.

Crushing Desire is an adventurous story starting out on land, moving to the sea, and boy did it pick up the pace quickly. I found myself thinking of the ship the two main characters ended up on through trickery by Reena’s chaperone and it was quite a journey for them. There was a traitor among the men on the ship before Reena and Joshua came aboard and it only made more problems for the captain. The villain turned out to be someone I never suspected and the story ended with a real shocker.

This is my first time reading a book from this author and she has wowed me with her storytelling! She writes a great story and had me throughout the book, wondering what could happen next to the two main characters. The secondary characters really added to the plot of the book, and Reena’s uncle was the biggest mystery with his aloofness toward her and his determination to marry her off.

Julian Bathington is forced to become The High-Class Highwayman after he loses his inheritance to his father’s believed bastard child. When his attempt to rob a stranger fails, Julian soon realizes that Griffen Michalis is offering more than a return of Julian’s inheritance; Griffen reveals the truth, with reference to their connection, as well as his desire for a friendship with benefits.

The High-Class Highwayman is a romance with a dash of mystery. Set in 1780 England, this short story offers some insights on the social standards of the time. Julian is a member of the aristocracy and not trained for manual labor. His motive for becoming a highwayman is to pay his servant’s wages and provide food. Well versed in the laws, Julian is very discreet with lovers. Although part of the criminal element, Griffen has the manners of a gentleman. He is fond of kinky sex games and immediately develops an attraction for Julian. The plot is intriguing with appealing characters. The intimate scenes are interwoven into the mystery. Since the culprit is not revealed, I get the impression that the talented Julia Talbot has another installment in store for this very enjoyable saga.

Detective Evan Cerelli and his lover Matt Haight have set up a loving home with Evan’s children, but that’s not to say they don’t have issues to contend with. Evan hasn’t come to terms with the labels attached to having a male lover, and has issues with Matt still being friends with his one-night stand, Jim Shea. Matt makes the perfect house-husband but doesn’t want to be labeled the “woman of the house”, and doesn’t want to lose his identity with this new transition.

Even with more than a little tension between these two men, one thing rings true, they love each other. Is love enough to get them through these rough times?

Duty & Devotion reminded me of how fragile relationships can be and the importance of communication. Evan’s inability to focus on the love he has and the partner who accepted his children as his own made for some difficult times during this story. I could feel Matt’s pain and really wanted to throw an ink drawn shoe at Evan. Matt gave up so much to make Evan’s home happy and loving that I couldn’t understand why anyone else’s opinion should matter to him.

Matt wasn’t an angel but he wasn’t malicious and that made the bumpy roads easier to travel. When I saw the jealousy Evan felt towards Matt’s friendship with Jim, I could understand his panicked reaction. Contending with an old lover is never easy, but the fight was all in Evan’s mind. The love Matt felt for him and the kids was more than apparent.

Tere Michaels has delivered yet another incredible story in the About Love series.

When his parents fears land him in a ‘treatment’ center Lindsay’s life becomes a living hell. Finally seeing a chance to escape, the young mage takes it, later to end up in the arms of his mate.

Dane is living under a curse and wants as little to do with others as possible. Forced into the position of babysitter, Dane wants nothing more than to walk away. Fortunately for both men, Dane does not get what he wants.

Tatterdemalion is the newest story by authors Anah Crow and Dianne Fox and those who love shifter stories are sure to love this one. I am not going to tell you what type of shifter Dane is, as it would ruin the surprise. While there are many hints throughout the story, it is not until the last part of the book that the authors tell us what he is. When the truth comes out, it will be one of those OMG moments that will leave you saying “of course, the clues were there all the time”. Lindsay is a mage who, at the tender age of 19, has gone through more hell then some men twice his age. Both men are broken and chances of any kind of relationship working between them would be slim, yet, these men need each other and the authors do a wonderful job bringing all their emotions, turmoil and passion across for the reader.

The quest these two are on will also hold the reader’s attention till the end. The many secondary characters and twists to the plot will leave you wondering who really is a good guy and who isn’t. While there is nothing mentioned on the publishers site about this being a series, Tatterdemalion would make a wonderful introduction to an interesting world that I am sure many readers would like to visit again.

Beau and Sam are just as much in love as ever, even if they’re going through a rough patch. Beau’s having a good year and he’s working on getting his third championship title, while Sam is having the worst riding year of his life. Being together twenty-four hours a day can be a strain on any couple and the differences in their winnings only increases the friction. To make matters worse, they have friends in trouble who need help and hiding their relationship from almost everyone they know is getting old.

When the tension between Sam and Beau reaches the boiling point, Sam leaves the bullriding tour and heads back to the ranch. Except apart, the guys are even more unhappy. They don’t see each other since Beau isn’t coming home and they’re not talking, and neither knows what to do to fix what’s wrong. They’re not eating or sleeping well, and just when they work through their problems and Sam returns to the tour and is riding well again, tragedy strikes. It’s going to take all his love, inner strength and the support of their friends to help Beau stand strong as Sam fights for his life.

File Gumbo-Season One is the newest release in B.A. Tortuga’s ongoing Roughstock series. The passion and desire between Beau and Sam is just as intense as before, and they enjoy living, working and loving with each other. Yet they have strife, like all couples, and Ms. Tortuga did a nice job expressing their conflict, unhappiness and unrest. She did an equally nice job bringing in old friends Jason, Andy, Balta, Joa, Coke and Dillon just to mention a few. These guys might be competitors on tour, but they’re also good friends who will stand firm in the face of adversity.

For me the last half of the book was the best and kept me enthralled and racing to the end to the see what would happen. The tour tragedy, it’s aftermath and the way their friends rallied around Sam and Beau was so many things: painful, heart wrenching, devastating, realistic and hopeful. It brought more than one tear to my eyes.

The big thing I appreciate about this series is the realism. The fact that living and working in the bull riding tour is dangerous is never glossed over. Men get hurt riding these huge, angry animals and BA handles it and it’s often life changing aftermath with great realism, creativity and care.

Casey first met Evan when he finds Evan slumped against a dumpster, with his dog Sadie protecting him. Evan had been injured after a gay bashing. Quickly making friends with Sadie, Casey and the dog follow Evan to the hospital to check on Evan’s health. Although not looking for sympathy, Evan finally agrees to allow Casey to help him and Sadie get home.

Sadie's Kiss is a superb short story with a positive message of survival. Evan keeps everyone at a distance; he does not want the pity he feels coming from others, so his dog Sadie is his only friend. However, Evan has a strong will to survive, whatever the circumstance he finds himself in. It is that inter-strength that supports Evan in maintaining a day by day self-sufficient life. When Evan recognizes that Sadie approves of Casey, he surrenders to everyone’s wishes. Casey is a sensitive man, which is well suited for his job as a LGTB Support Center counselor. His desire for Evan has nothing to do with counseling and more to do with the intense love at first sight he experiences. Casey realizes that there is something very special about the connection he senses with Evan. Casey is determined to do everything he can to have a relationship with him.

The amazing Sophia Titheniel has created an outstanding well written story with realistic and very appealing characters. The theme is perceptively poignant. The intimate scenes are wonderful. The story makes you want to hug Evan and Casey. I thoroughly enjoyed Sadie's Kiss.

Rowena, Lady of Pendragon, believes in taking care of her people and now that she is a widow, the land and serfs come first for her. There is a curse surrounding the Pendragon men, along with talk of fairies and dragons, which she puts on stock in, and thinks it will keep her from having to marrying again. Along comes Dominic, who desires her the first time he sees her and her defiance to not open her gates to Dominic has him wanting to know why she is like that.

Dominic of Capstow is a loyal and trusted knight of William Marshal, who was sent to bring Lady Rowena to court, so she can answer to a charge that is being brought against her. She is determined to not have any feelings for him because of the behavior her deceased husband had toward her. The realization that Rowena had slipped into his guarded heart confused and angered him, since he is not ready to marry yet.

Tears of the Dragon is a story of a young innocent girl, married to a man who didn’t keep his promises, and a seasoned trusted knight, who find love in the time of danger. The villains that pose the threat to the future of Pendragon are not what you would expect but just the same, greed plays a big factor. I thought that Rowena was a little too cautious at times, and thanks to her maid, she was kept from making too many wrong choices with the people. Dominic was my hero, and I really felt for him, being forced into a position not his choosing and his willingness to protect Rowena was a nice touch.

This is the first book I have read from Ms. Friberg, and I must say that she did a fantastic job of storytelling. Talk about knight in shining armor, Dominic was every bit of that and more. After I figured out what was behind the curse, it left me wondering about the outcome of the story. Let me say here that I was not disappointed at all and was thrilled at the generosity of the two main characters. If you are looking for a boring story, this is not it - I say read and enjoy!

Needing a change from child exploitation crimes, Devlin has recently transferred to the Special Crimes Investigators Unit. His new unit pairs up altered and non-altered investigators. Trying hard to ignore the office gossip, Devlin is intrigued by his new partner.

Orphaned twice as a child, Connor was ‘cured’ of his blindness by his new father. As an adult, these alterations come in handy in his job as an investigator. Having already lost one partner, Connor is not looking forward to breaking in a new one.

Set in the distant future, Somatesthesia by Ann Somerville brings together two totally different men and shows them that the only way they can ever be complete is with each other. Throwing them into a kidnapping case shortly after meeting, the author gives these two no choice but to learn about each other on the run. Almost to the point of being a cyborg, Connor, who was raised by a father more interested in science than children, is socially inept. His behavior to the situations around him and his corresponding actions come across realistically. The author does such a wonderful job making this character believable that the reader will have no problem understanding why he behaves the way he does. With Devlin, the author has given the readers a character that, because of his childhood, is open about who he is and what he wants. While the reader may not agree with some of his actions, they will understand why he acts the way he does. Although not a page burner, the passion between these two is intense and does not come across as gratuitous. As this story draws to a close, make sure you keep some tissue handy as you will need it.

The crime story aspect of this story will hold the readers interest as there are many little twists and turns along the way, while Connor and Devlin search for the kidnapper. This book is definitely one I will be re-reading again.
