Twice the Cowboy (4.5 Nymphs)

Jess Graff has participated in the El Paso International Rodeo for four years and has never come across a cowboy like Manuel Santos Fuentes. Smooth fluid lines and the grace of a dancer, Manuel stirs desires in Jess from the first glance.

Manuel knew he wanted Jess in his bed, and was prepared to take the ride of his life. He sets the ball in motion with a few subtle hints at a local bar. Jess watches him compete the next day and is enthralled. When Manuel is injured in the El Paso de la Muerte, Jess takes him back to his hotel for a bit of R&R. It’s clear from the time they enter the room that rest is the furthest thing from either cowboy’s mind.

From family feuds to a road trip to Mexico, Twice the Cowboy is a fantastic read. Manuel is drop dead gorgeous, but wants to be loved for his inner beauty, not his outer charms. Jess is the take-charge type of man who will never leave a friend stranded. The two lovers work together to regain Menuel’s prized possession and cement their new found feelings of love. The sex gives new definition to the phrase “rode hard and put away wet”.

Twice the Ride (4.5 Nymphs)

Jess and Manuel have decided to give their relationship a try. Jess now has a new dilemma: getting Manuel to move in with him. Manuel has never loved someone the way he does Jess, but has a major hang-up with leaving even a mere toothbrush in his lover’s home.

Jess has to pry the news that Manuel’s mother is getting married out of him. What should be a simple trip to the rodeo turns into a version of Guess who’s Coming to Dinner in Twice the Ride. Manuel’s mother is one momma you don’t want to play with. She has a fierce love for her son, and while his sexual orientation is a concern, it soon becomes overshadowed by the knowledge of the mutual love of Jess and Manuel. Ramon, Manuel’s step-father, proves you should always watch the quiet man on the sidelines. And José, the jealous uncle, is back with a vengeance and attempts to disrupt the family gathering.

Twice the Ride is a story of love, support, and acceptance. The characters find themselves facing the hard realities of life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and was caught between laughter over antics and fanning to abide the heat. I’ll admit the sex was hotter the second time around. Twice the Ride is a marvelous sequel to Twice the Cowboy.

Twice the Cowboy, Twice the Ride is the first book by James Buchanan that I have had the privilege to read and review. I’m positive it won’t be the last. You watch as Manuel and Jess both grow and nurture each other through the series, learn to overcome obstacles and put old fears to rest. They even find acceptance where they thought none may be given. All the while, you are delivered with bits of humor and sex hot enough to scorch your eyebrows. James Buchanan has delivered a series you don’t want to miss.

Bev Navarro is one of a group from her college days who has maintained the friendship into adulthood. She is still heartbroken over something that happened two years ago with one of the men in their close-knit group and now she is back in his home again for a birthday party. Seeing Holden after so long has Bev wanting to leave and jump his bones at the same time because she has not gotten over her love for him.

Holden Lancaster is determined to keep Bev for himself, regardless of what it is going to cost him. He has not forgotten what it feels like to be close to her and wants her to be with him permanently. Smart, handsome, sexy Holden can have any woman he wants but prefers Bev, who has marked him for life. When they find out secrets about the rest, they are shocked and decide to talk about what happened after everyone left for the night.

Lena Matthews has made her characters come alive for me so much so that it will make you work harder at your own relationship to keep it going on. With the big surprises at the birthday party for the seven friends, things change with emotions all around and some even leave the party. Holden & Bev are left alone to figure out their present of a stop watch while getting to the bottom of why she has avoided him for so long. Not willing to accept her short answers, Holden forces his hand to find out why she won’t speak willingly to him.

Between everyone in their little group, the surprises and hot sex I am at a loss without more to read. This was a wonderful love story for Lena and now I know that there will be more to the saga of Seven Minutes in Heaven, I can’t wait to read more of her story about the other five members of the group. Each person has their own qualities and brings a lot to the rest of the group; one is more persistent than the others who lead them all to positive changes.

At a restaurant on Valentine Day, Vic develops an energy explosion that sends off sparks like fireworks after he and Matt had performed the clasping position. Vic remembers what the Kama Sutra writings said. The lover is the most important man in the world. He is without stress, without conflict, without flaw. The world recognizes his loving heart and bends willingly to his whims, because his wishes are godlike and his desires natural.

The Positions of Love Book III: Clasping Position gives Vic the power to melt metal and direct the energy for a fireworks display for Matt. J. M. Snyder gives another illustration of the power’s source in association with the sexual activity of Vic and Matt. I find the theory interesting.

In this episode, Vic is at the gym. After his workout, Matt and Vic assume the Kama Sutra two pillars position which instills Vic with the power of phasing, the ability to walk through solid objects.

The Positions of Love Book II: Two Pillars Position is a continued description of Kama Sutra for gay men. The only saving grace of this story is the humor; in my opinion the sequence lacks substance. The chronicle does not quantify the creative works I look forward to from J.M. Snyder.

This is the first Christmas together for Vic Braunson and Matt diLorenzo. The holiday held little meaning for Vic, but he wanted to make the day special for his lover Matt. Five days before Christmas, Vic found the perfect gift, foot care products which included oils and lotions to enhance their sexual foreplay. Matt gifted Vic with a book of Kama Sutra for gay men. Matt’s goal is to track the powers and what they did to get them. Matt hopes to protect Vic from the powers he can’t control.

The Positions Of Love Book I is a spin off of The Power of Love series. With each sexual encounter, Matt infuses Vic with another super power that lasts for a day. In this series, J.M. Snyder exhibits Vic with powers that include but not limited to teleporting, excessive pheromones and Vic being a magnetic field. This is another enjoyable saga of Matt and Vic.

Josh thinks this is a great idea since Chance is very attractive, but he gets a rude awakening and realizes that he was premature in accepting the deal. Does Josh live or die? Does he fulfill Chance’s fantasies? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

Sky Jackson walks into the San Francisco police station to meet with the investigators on a serial killer’s case. Sky is an authenticated psychic from New York. Sky was shocked to discover the main detective on the case is Rafe Ferguson, the guy who introduced Sky to sex their last year in high school. It was a one night stand, in the back seat of Rafe’s car, but Sky never got over the crush he had for Rafe. Rafe acts as if he does not remember Sky. Hurt by this, Sky is determined to do his job and get back to his life in New York.

Essence is an amazing mystery that gives you insight into the unhinged mind of a serial killer, and the special connection between Sky and Rafe. The plot is intriguing, sexy and infused with humor. D. J. Manly reveals a tantalizing account of events that grasp your attention to the very end. This is an excellent story.

Delores Hunter is a writer who loves to be scared by her dreams to help her write even more horror novels. When Delores buys a very old gothic house without even a walk through, she learns so much more than she ever wanted. Morgan is her assistant and once she knows who he really is it causes even more confusion for her already insecure self.

Morgan Smith is a vampire turned by the owner of the house and had been the owner’s assistant in the past. Now he wants Delores as much as she wants him but he is still having trouble letting go of his past to move on with his life. The main objective for Morgan is to protect Delores with his life if necessary.

Healing Wounds has become one of my favorite books because I really enjoyed reading the story. When Morgan & Delores meet, there is no way their time together could be normal. They are opposites that have attracted each other and nothing will stop them from being together. With all the action, ghosts and vampires, you can hardly stop reading to find out what happens next. After reading about these two lovers, one would hope Vanessa Gilfory continues their saga with them.

Ash is the leader of the Sky Warriors. Born from the union of the Sky ruler’s daughter and an Incubus, he has inherited the best from both worlds: stunningly handsome looks and an insatiable sexual appetite. As commanded by his father, Ash has led his army into battle with the Sun people. For one so young, he has had a great deal hoisted upon his strong shoulders. The gorgeous warrior has yet another task that only he can fulfill thrown at his feet. Depending on his willingness to perform the task, Ash will suffer one of two outcomes: to surely die by his father’s hand, or to possibly die by his enemies.

Rush is the King of the Sun people, and the last surviving member of the royal bloodline. Through the actions of his father, Rush is bound to a life of chastity. Sparks fly when these two leaders meet face to face for the first time. Soon Rush and Ash discover that there is more to life than war.

Make love not war seemed to echo in my mind as I read Ash. Two leaders – each handsome, strong and striving to do what is expected of him. I found it hard to believe that Ash is just eighteen years old. His will is stronger than a majority of men his age, and his sexual parlous was something to behold. He proved that he was the son of an Incubus time and time again. Rush loved his people and has put their happiness and well being above his own, as only a good leader would. I enjoyed reading Ash and I feel obligated to state it’s not for the faint at heart. If you like your sex vanilla you are definitely picking up the wrong book. Ash is a sundae with all the fixings. I found myself blushing a few times. Manly has created a wonderful story filled with action, suspense and erotic encounters that is sure to delight those who enjoy the genre.

Cherri Barratt is not at all adventurous. When she meets Rafael Mercada, a Cuban plantation owner, she is only looking to buy a box of cigars for her father’s birthday. Rafael turns the purchase into a whole new erotic experience for her, giving her an appreciation for cigars and adventure that she never thought possible.

Rafael seduces Cherri into his world and she falls more and more in love with him each day, even though he never fully makes love to her. He is also holding secrets, which he does not share with her and she wonders what he could be hiding. Then she meets Luca Reyes, Rafe’s long time friend, and gets answers to some of her questions. . When Rafe leaves for home, the sense of loss she experiences makes her realize that she wants him in her life forever.

Three months after they first met, she is on her way to Cuba to visit Rafe’s family’s plantation. Her remaining questions are answered when Cherri arrives in Cuba and she has to determine where she fits into Rafe’s life, but she knows that he is the only man for her.

I will never look at a cigar the same way again. The scene in Rafael’s shop with the cigar is too sensuous for words. An Acquired Taste is a delightful book. With wonderfully written and well-developed characters, the author shares a unique take on love.

Susannah is the oldest of the twelve princesses born to the King & Queen of Middle Kingdom. She loves her sisters and parents but is so bored with her life, she starts to figure out things that should be kept secret. Realizing how she feels about two different men, Susannah is completely confused and does not know how to solve her problem. Since she is the oldest, the responsibility falls to her to make everything right for the family.

Jon Tom is a decetive who is hired to find out what exactly the princesses are doing to ruin their dancing slippers. He has fallen for Susannah from the very beginning and wants nothing more than to run away with her in spite of his job. During a trip to the enchanted castle Jon poses as the Prince John for Susannah and makes matters even more difficult as he finds out how the princesses are ruining their dancing slippers.

Jody Wallace has truly done a fabulous job of telling a story surrounding the princesses. With the involvement of the fairies too, they only add to the enjoyment of what happens to everyone in this story. From beginning to end, Susannah is pressed to keep her secrets even though it would make her life easier telling them all. Most of Susannah’s time is spent trying to undo the curse that was cast on Middle Kingdoms more than thirty years. That no male heir be born ever again because of the Emperor’s determination to keep a certain fairy out of his kingdom. Malady, the fairy in question has the tendency to put bad blessings on the children born, such as bad body odor, big feet, knobbyknees, etc.

As Susannah grew up helping out her parents with her younger sisters; Lilly, Esme, Peter (yes Peter), Nina, Calypo, Temple, Hortense, Ella, Annabelle, Fay and Rosa, the youngest at twelve, nothing changes in their lives. The time comes that Susannah refuses to take the sisters dancing with the Princes that are trapped in an enchanted castle below their castle home after she figures out that things are changing for everyone.

A Spell For Susannah made me grateful for siblings of both sexes and took me away to a time of much enjoyment. Out of all the men that come to visit, Jon Tom is the one person that Susannah finds intriguing and makes her angry at the same time. As they come together to solve the true curse, emotions between them heat up unbelievably and the ending will have you cheering for everyone.

Cheryl Witte is a lonely bored writer for a newspaper who is on a very hot breaking story that only she must write as she needs to be noticed. After meeting the two men she summoned from a book she was given, Cheryl changes her mind about becoming a bride to mate with them and wants to go home.

Cy is a very hot hunk who wants nothing more than to claim his bride and get on with life whereas Maksim has other ideas about the whole situation. With Cheryl getting weak because they have not bonded, the time comes for Cy to press the issue between them so he can understand what the problem is so Maksim to complete the ritual needed for them to be together.

Maksim is in charge of his own company and doing somewhat ok, with only a problem or two and taking a bride only complicates his life with feelings he does not want. When forced to lead in Cheryl’s training of submission, Maksim starts really thinking about what is important to not only him but Cheryl & Cy. In the end, he realizes what it will cost everyone involved by his decision not to open up to his feelings for the two.

Reading Passion Unbound: Wicked Nights, about the Twelfth Knight Brotherhood, was not what I expected and I enjoyed every moment of reading the story. Cy, Cheryl & Maksim are very different from each other but emotions take over for each in its own way and they are having a hard time accepting their feeling for each other that is normal for bride bonding.

Cheryl does the very thing that will have her caught up in another world that she does not want and will resist because of her stubbornness. In the end, there is a complete surprise for the three of them that was not communicated with everyone not wanting to talk and very much enjoyed by me.

Stefan Rigatos has his slap tickle and run routine down to a science. He doesn’t form emotional commitments with women, but will provide them with pleasure for a few months. Stefan has preformed this act one too many times and vengeance is about to be a dish served piping hot. They say that every dog has his day, unfortunately for Stefan his is coming with a wicked curse in tow.

Vicki Lindstrom is a veterinary assistant who showed Stefan a measure of kindness during one of the lowest moments in his life. While she has not been in the forefront of his mind since the incident, his subconscious has labeled her a woman he could rely on and guides him to Vicki in search of shelter. Soon he discovers that Vicki is the key to changing his hound-dog ways.

I enjoyed reading Love Unleashed. Prior to his daily interactions with Vicki, Stefan never thought he could learn to love someone. He sees her for what she is, an uncomplicated woman with a heart of gold. Vicki hasn’t been the best judge of men’s character and openly admits to having this flaw. When she discovers the truth about Stefan she finds that there is no safer place for her heart than in his strong hands. Watching Vicki tear down Stefan’s defenses was a treat. The poor man never knew what hit him. Margaret has a way of adding humor and spice in just the right doses. This is a story you don’t want to miss.

Kyra’s deceased father is appearing in her dreams and her mother is losing her mind. Her workaholic husband is puzzled by her discontent and so is she. Her deep love for her two-year-old daughter causes some of her most violent panic. Losing her daughter briefly in a shopping mall seems to bring things to a head.

Kyra wants to find herself, but she fears she isn’t really there. She’s lost her sense of self and her desire for sex. Pregnancy once made her give up her goals of becoming a writer. Now a writers’ workshop may help her put together all the puzzle pieces.

This is a powerful story of family ties and secrets. Sometimes we view Kyra’s despair. At other times we see her mother Ava’s haunting memories. And we are both titillated and taunted by the inscrutable messages found on bumper stickers.

This is a fascinating psychological piece, raising issues of nature vs. nurture, child abuse, and maternal love. It would be a wonderful book club selection, spurring endless conversation. Author Augusto has produced a stunning piece of work. It is short on action, but filled with emotion and revelation. The pieces all fall together nicely at the conclusion. A great read.

When he sees her after her abrupt departure a year ago, anger is his first reaction then it is onto business as usual. Now Mark must do what he can to clear Cynthia from all the charges adding up against her.

Cynthia Abbott wants to be a better example than her parents were and staying in total control is right at the top of her list. Thinking that she needs to clear herself of any wrong doing, she takes off on her own and gets into more trouble than she can handle. Mark is causing so many feelings to arise within her that she has kept suppressed; she can hardly function on a normal basis.

What a mystery of murder and relationships brewing from Dusk til Dawn 2: Light of Day that you really have to pay attention to everything being said. This is a well-written story that is surrounded by missing diamonds and murder. As Mark & Cynthia find their true feelings for each other, everything else is falling apart and making it worse for them to stay together as a couple.

With the involvement of Mark’s cousins and others, the murders become even more difficult to solve especially when they all point to Cynthia. The town is small and the gossip flows hot about everyone there. Being thrown together at every turn proves harder for the two lovers and the only thing they want is to find out who is doing the murders. I love mysteries/suspense stories and this one was very impressive, it kept me trying to figure out who actually did the murders and kept trying to murder Cynthia as well.

Marian Allanson lost her parents when she was just a baby and went to her aunt and uncle for care as they were her only living relatives, but two years later her aunt died and she found herself in the care of an uncle that never wanted children. Uncle Ted was an addict and likes to gamble; he wagered her in a card game to his buddy Big Arnie when she was just thirteen--and lost, making her Arnie’s who ran a prostitution house and forced her into serving his customers. Two days later they found that her uncle had overdosed and they went to buy flowers to give him a proper send off. Arnie gave her some money and told her to go to the bookstore next door while he settled Uncle Ted's affairs but she tore up his money and shoplifted a book that had her retreating into the world of Robin Hood when reality grew too nightmarish to bear. Years later, Marian was back at the bookstore and working as a clerk but Orlando, a street wise twelve year-old suddenly flew across the counter and knocked her to the hard floor and when she opened her eyes, the two of them were no longer in the bookstore but instead they were in a forest!

Roland, the Earl of Hunterdon was not really the son of the original Roland but he looked so much like him that the household believed it. He kept putting off marrying Lady Elaine for one reason or another; he just knew that it did not feel right in his heart. Now that she was dead, he felt sorry that he kept putting off their marriage but when he saw the imposter who claimed to be Elaine he knew that he had the right choice in marrying Elaine.

Mimi Riser pens a hilarious story with Marian going back in time to see her fantasy man come to life. She is feisty, stubborn, and thoroughly twenty-first century and balks at Roland's high handed manner. Roland forces her to marry him and utters her acceptance before she could open her mouth. Later, Marian meets her fantasy and his horse also named Marian and she finds herself loving both the fantasy Robin Hood and Roland, the Earl of Hunterdon. Sherwood Charade is a delicious read that will have readers laughing and squirming when Marian finally gets her man …….. or should that be men?

Tori Connors is a news anchor at a local New York radio station. When she starts receiving hate mail the station hires Casey O’Rourke as her bodyguard.

The first time Tori sees Casey, she thinks that he is drop dead gorgeous. He is a woman’s dream man with terrific looks and a buff body to match, and she jokingly refers to him as her guardian angel.

At first Casey is all business, telling her that he does not get involved with his clients but he suggests that they pretend to be lovers to account for his presence in her life as well as set a trap for whoever is sending her threatening letters.

The threats on Tori’s life accelerate and her apartment is broken into. Casey decides to move her to his cabin to improve her chances of security. Of course, with the increased proximity, neither can resist the attraction between them which explodes into hot, scorching sex, despite Casey’s best intentions. They can’t get enough of each other and Tori soon realizes that she is falling in love with Casey.

The plot is one that is quite familiar and there are really no surprises in the book. The final takedown and disclosure of the villain are predictable but, despite the lack of a bombshell ending, Guardian Angel is a good read and the two main characters are quite likeable.

Lord Drake is a mercenary. When he meets Ansel for the first time he is immediately attracted to him and waives his usual rule of not training young men to become mercenaries because so many have died in battle while under his care.

He and Ansel travel together to the next battle and, as expected, they fall in love. Neither man has ever had a gay encounter before so the sex between them is hot, fresh and new. Drake is the initiator or ‘top’ whenever they have sex and they cannot get enough of each other. It’s as if they are the only people in the world. Their very last time together, they make love and blow each other away with tenderness the night before they go into battle at Foray. The lovemaking is moving and sensuous as they try to store up memories that will last a lifetime, just in case.

When Ansel loses his life at Foray the setting, as expected, is poignant, moving and sad. Drake searches for him on the battlefield among the bodies of men and horses, and he eventually finds Ansel as he lay dying next to his horse. When it is all over Drake cannot bear to leave him and holds his lover in his arms for hours afterwards. This scene was really heartrending.

For 2 years after Ansel’s death, Drake spirals into depression and alcoholism, only working to get money to drink himself into oblivion. Then his old friend Jackson offers him a job as Master of Arms for the Duke of Marden. This new chapter heralds a significant change in the direction of Drake’s life and fortunes. He opens his heart to a new love - Logan, Duke of Marden.

The Mercenary’s Tale can actually be viewed as two stories covering the evolution of Lord Drake, and it is one of the most delightful books that I have read in a while. The language and dress are true to the era, and the author, Lynn Lorenz, should be commended for making the book as historically accurate as possible within the confines of a work of fiction. This is a very violent and bloody story due to the subject matter and time period, and may not be for the faint of heart.

I highly recommend this fabulous book as one that anyone would be proud to have on their bookshelves. Well done!

Pieter Van Leyden grew up on a Caribbean sugar cane plantation with slave Joss, and his family, as friends. After four years of schooling in Holland, Pieter returns to his home at Spinnaker Plantation where he and Joss become lovers. Pieter’s father Nicolaas discovers the affair and banishes Pieter and then sells Joss. When Nicolaas dies, Pieter returns to Spinnaker, but there is no record of Joss’ sale. Never in agreement with slave ownership, Pieter traveled to Louisiana. With few jobs available, Pieter settles for plantation manager at the Morning Star. To his surprise, the plantation is owned by Sebastin Cane, a man Pieter had met in Holland and was still attracted to. Pieter also discovers that Joss is a slave on the plantation as well.

Cane is a compelling story of denied freedom. Stevie Woods illustrates an extraordinary view of the mind-set maintained by most plantation owners, who believed slaves were property in the same category as farm animals and tools. Deprived of his human rights because he is gay, Pieter does everything in his power to change the closed minds pertaining to the lack of civil rights for the slaves. Cane is a romance story with a potent reminder that the same mind-set displayed in this historical account still continues today. This is an outstanding saga that I enjoyed immensely.

Suzie had been fantasizing about both men, so she accepts their offer, and little did she know that Mike and Matt were having daydreams about her too, so they use this opportunity to get better acquainted with each other.

Double Delicious is a delightful, sexy description of a bad-luck day turned into new beginnings. Christiane France exhibits the characters of hard working Matt and Mike as nice guys willing to share their home and relationship with Suzie. Alone with few options, Suzie finds a happy solution for the future. Double Delicious is an enjoyable read.

Sommer McGregor, at the age of twenty-six, is taking her first step towards independence by opening her own catering business, Afternoon Delights. Adopted when she was an infant, after being rescued from a car crash that killed her human parents, Sommer is well loved, and protected from the non-accepting pack members, by her Wulfen mother and father.

Caleb Masters is the son of Alpha wolf Seth. It was Seth who found Sommer and took her to the childless McGregors to raise as their own. The Wulfen are wolves who walked on their hind legs and mated with humans, evolving into werewolves who only shift for full moon runs. Caleb has loved Sommer since she was sixteen, but waited until now to claim her as his mate.

Torrid Tarot – Caleb’s Woman is a creative love story where skin color is not the issue. Eve Vaughn exhibits the characters of Caleb and Sommer in sensuous love scenes, and working through the obstacles of Sommer fitting in with the pack as Caleb’s mate and Caleb’s insecurity relating to Sommer’s true feelings for him. This is a well written story that I enjoyed.

Collina Flavia has always had a fascination for medicine, and is the new physician for a ludus (gladiator’s school). Though she has only been there for a short time, one of the gladiator’s has captured her attention. With his rippling muscles and skin the color of night, Scipio is a walking fantasy.

Scipio noticed the young beauty the first day she arrived, and has carefully planned and fought to be the first of his brother’s to approach Collina. Knowing that he is a slave doesn’t sway Scipio from taking a chance to gain Collina as his lover and hopefully in time his wife. He offers two gifts that even some free men will not easily bestow: love and devotion.

The Gladiator’s Woman is a story of love and sacrifice. Collina knows that her place is by Scipio’s side. Scipio has to decide which is more important freedom or a future with Collina. It would have been appreciated if the author had included words not common to this time period placed in a glossary or explained them within the book itself. But overall the story is sweet and sensual.

The year is 1961 and vampire Gideon Keel is anticipating kicking off a bloodbath. He has an iron hold on Chicago and that is why he is feared by humans and vampires. In over sixty years, not one individual has come close to killing him. This streak ends the night he walks into a church meeting.

Civil rights activist Mary Straughn is in the middle of a church meeting when a stranger walks into her church and challenges her. She figured they would cross paths again, since the stake she plunged into his back didn’t kill him. However, Mary didn’t expect to visit Gideon’s apartment, of her own free will, and ask him for help.

Gideon agrees to assist Mary track down the vampires who murdered some local girls, but only under one condition. After it was all over, she had to spend one night with him.

Two different worlds met, merged and made me melt in At the Advent of Dusk. The pull between Gideon and Mary conjured up so many emotions I am still reading their story in my head. I love the fact that you see Gideon wrestling between doing what is right and what he feels compelled to do as a vampire. Mary is the kind of character who is hard enough to be viewed as a leader, but still soft enough to represent every woman. Thank you Craig for the passionate trip into your world. Now that I’m here, I plan to apply for residency.

Sandy is a struggling musician who has lost her passion to sing. She notices one of her customers is actually paying attention to her performance. John’s body language is conveying a message that Sandy can is easily able to read: impress me.

Through weeks of interaction John helps Sandy push herself to the level of performing she has never attained. Her desire to succeed is nurtured and flourishes. Soon her dream of stardom is no longer just a dream. Sandy soon discovers that the road to being a star can be a lonely road to travel.

Sometimes we need someone to believe in our dreams is the message I received from the story Someone to Watch Over Me. John’s purpose was to give Sandy the push she needed to move forward in her career. He seemed to save her from herself, and help put into perspective what was really important. John knew what needed to be done to make Sandy’s dreams a reality. I found Savannah Stephens Smith to be a wonderful writer and Someone to Watch Over Me an enjoyable story.

Scott has found someone he can love for the first time in centuries. Watching Morgan cut down his lover and prepare to put an end to his existence was an image he will never forget. Faced with the reality that he is about to be thrown back into a lonely existence, Scott does the only thing possible to keep his world from tilting out of balance: he makes Daniel a vampire.

Daniel is disoriented and a bit dazed when he awakes for the first time as a vampire. Some internal mechanism tells him drinking blood is wrong. And when he finally regains his memory, Daniel is facing the end of his life as a hunter. His new goal of creating coexistence for vampires and humans seems easy compared to forgiving Scott.

Sanctuary is a wonderful sequel to Morningstar. Jade introduces us to new characters and new dilemmas for Scott and Daniel to resolve. Scott and Daniel take the passion up a notch with a bit of assistance from a few willing humans, and we get to see if Daniel’s dream can become a reality. Sanctuary was solidly written and exceptionally delivered. I enjoyed both stories in this series, but I will have to admit that Morningstar was my favorite hands down.

Jeffrey relocates to the city from his small hometown seeking employment. He is over- qualified for his new job but knows that with a little hard work, he can move up in the company. Jeffrey’s father has told his son he is too soft-hearted. And unlike his father, Jeffrey believes some of the homeless people he comes across are in their predicament because of a string of bad luck.

Shane, a homeless man, is working through the trauma of his memory loss. Jeffrey approaches him with a goodwill gesture and Shane can’t believe his luck. Since waking up in the ER, Shane has gained firsthand knowledge of how cruelly homeless people are sometimes treated. A befalling conversation over a shared cup of coffee leads Shane to agreeing to spend the night in the comfort of Jeffery’s home.

Reaching out to those in need is what Jeffery does in The Perfect Gift. Jeffrey knew that Shane needed his help and gave him an offer he couldn’t refuse: refuge for the night. Despite the physical attraction he held for Shane, Jeffrey just saw someone who was lonelier and worse off than he was himself. Shane was nervous about accepting help from a stranger. But Jeffery made him comfortable and eased his doubts. The sex was charged and laced with an amount of caring neither man could express with mere words. The characters are witty and realistic. I love how Jade has brought the plight of our homeless to the forefront in this erotic romance. The Perfect Gift has been my introduction to Jade Falconer and I look forward to reading more literature by this talented author.

Regan Thomas, an animal physiotherapist and animal rights activist, breaks into Nathan Epoc’s lab to free the test animals. She managed to open the cages of a German Shepard and a very large wolf before she is caught by the guards and fighting for her life, Regan escapes. Feeling that her mission has failed, she awakens the next morning to find the wolf sleeping on her sofa, Regan soon discovers that this is no ordinary wolf, but a werewolf named Declan O’Connell.

Declan O’Connell is the last of the Irish werewolf Onchu clan and enemy to Nathan Epoc, who is alpha of the Eudeyrn clan. Nathan kidnapped Declan, searching for a way to extract Declan’s life essence and create a super wolf serum. Not only will this make Nathan more powerful, but complete his revenge on the Onchu clan.

Savage Retribution is a side-splitting funny action packed story of payback. Lexxie Couper has created a cast of characters, and a plot that takes you to the extreme with an intense fast moving chase through Sydney, Australia. Regan is a sassy, quick thinking female who packs a punch when cornered. Declan is a tough as nails, hard to kill werewolf determined to save Regan. There are sensual love scenes, but I found the hilarious dialog to be my favorite element of this fantastic narrative.

Ten years ago, a virus ripped through the planet Ta’e. Before the damage can be controlled many were dead and a majority of the women were left barren. Council deliberation had ordered ships to find a compatible species. They discover Earth women, with the assistance of a DNA implant, were able to breed the future generations of the Ta’e’shans.

Theadora Conner has lived a quiet existence, with no family to ease her loneliness. She has come to rely on her faith in Lord Skye and Lady Gaia to guide and protect her. Thea awakens to discover that she has been abducted and married to two Ta’e’shan males. Thea has to rely on her faith to find peace and acceptance for her new husbands and life.

Kyrin and Daeshen knew Thea would be their perfect mate. The two men approached her at a night club, where she accepted their offer to dance. Kyrin and Daeshen were hard pressed to not take her with them that night but they knew that protocols must be followed. The men felt guilty for having to gain Thea through abduction but not enough to give her up. They hope that Thea will give them the opportunity to prove their love and devotion.

Desperation can lead to sticky situations as presented in Ta'e'sha Chronicles: Daughters of Terra. Kyrin and Daeshen are both handsome and fearless on their own, but together create a force to be reckoned with. Thea is a lovely woman and her gentle nature helps her and her mates ease into their new marriage. She has to endure situations that would break a lesser person without a strong conviction in faith. When Thea finally blasts the men for their practices and what she perceives as a callous attitude towards how the abducted woman view the occurrences, I stood up and cheered. The strength she showed her mates in that moment gave me a new respect for Thea, who I was starting to feel, was a bit of a push over. The erotic play between the characters scorched the pages of my book. Wonderful plot, wonderful characters, wonderful story! Theolyn Boese has written an extraordinary novel and I look forward to reading the next upcoming sequel.

Emmie is the lone panther shapeshifter in her small town and when she goes into heat monthly, she travels to the city to quench her intense sexual drive. Her mother has taught her to fear and avoid males of her species, so when she scents a male panther, she does what she thinks is smart…she runs. Bad idea since Theron has scented her too, and her running only triggers his predatory nature, forcing him to go after her. Being in heat takes away her willpower and she struggles to keep him at arms length, without success. She needs him…she wants him…she fears him and what bringing him into her life could mean. And when he claims to want to get closer…to get to know her, she doesn’t know what to think. After all, every female panther shifter knows that after satisfying his sexual urges, the male always leaves. Or does he?

Scratching Post is another well written and plotted book by author Terri Pray. The characters are fun, sexy and independent, and you’re never left guessing what either one is feeling. Through much of the story they’re confused…about themselves, each other and why they are feeling the way they are, since it’s not ‘normal’ for shifters. Yet, underneath it all, it’s a story about new beginnings and where this new path will lead them. The author did an excellent job in describing the emotions of both Theron and Emmie as they struggled to understand what they were feeling, their uncertainty of their relationship and the future. You could almost feel the anxiety of Emmie waiting for the bottom to drop out of her life when Theron would finally decide to leave her. And Theron didn’t understand why Emmie had come to mean so much to him…it was abnormal for a male shapeshifter, and it scared him.

There’s no question that Theron and Emmie want each other and the frequent sexual contact proves that fact. These two are sizzling hot together…hot enough to burn the house down around their ears, and if they can get past their fear, could have a great life together. Secondary characters play an important part of this story and the bad guys are truly lunatic beat-the-little-old-lady-next-door crazy. These two make great villains to a well rounded and interesting story, giving it more depth. If you enjoy shapeshifter books them I’m betting you will like this one!

Jenny Braden has spent her married life with a miserable bastard for a husband. Jim felt Jenny’s opinions were of little importance, and ignored her warning that they were being watched. Thanks to a small band of Apaches, her tenure of abused wife has ended. Jenny’s finally responsibility to the brute she called husband is to play undertaker.

Miakoda is the daughter of a tribe leader. She is known to be a ruthless cold-hearted warrior. Some say she is a “two-spirit” or man-woman. Miakoda noticed Jenny from the start, and after the attack, she remains behind to keep an eye on the lush woman who has captured her attention.

Jenny awakens looking in the eyes of her savior: Miakoda. She quickly learns that while some rumors are obviously true, others are inconsequential. Jenny is surprised by the amount of affection, caring and gentleness the handsome woman is willing to dole out.

In the strong embrace of a woman, Jenny opens like a rare flower and blossoms in Apache Eyes. Yeva Wiest delivers a powerful story of love and acceptance. Miakoda knows her sexuality and is comfortable in her own skin. She is a woman capable of protecting what she considers hers. Jenny has had her spirit beaten and bruised, but Miakoda’s solace sooths the hurt and helps her move forward. While I’m not a true lesbian literature fan, I have a love for western themes. I have to admit I found Apache Eyes to be a well written story and a most impressive read.

Working on Valentine’s Day isn’t her first choice, but Tzara Johnson has to finish a last minute order for her customer. Work temporarily keeps her from remembering she is alone, but it doesn’t stop the fantasies about the one man who stokes her fire.

A remodeling job on her house brought contractor Jason Martin into Tzara’s life and heart a year ago. Out of the blue, he calls and asks for a date. If all goes well, Tzara’s day might end with a new beginning.

Tzara’s Heart has all the sweetness of honeysuckles in the sunshine on an Alabama back road. The surprise ending touched my girlie side and left me feeling soft. Jason obviously knows how to treat a lady and I would have loved more insight into the year he spent wanting Tzara from afar. Riley showed me the bone, snatched it away, and left me wanting more of her stories. She may be the new kid on the block but she is definitely the one to watch. I am looking forward to the next story like a kid waits for Christmas.

As a young child, Bastien watched as his father, the King, was executed and the only reason he survived was because he was smuggled out of the palace and city. Since then he’s spent years training to be a Beloved…the perfect sexual weapon who’s able to use his magical powers and that of the area around him to entice and enthrall his ‘clients’. Now he’s been purchased and brought to the city for one purpose. To captivate and kill the overlord of the city, when years of active revolt has failed. Killing is not something that Bastian was trained to do, but he’s been given little choice.

As a friend of the Lord Protector’s son, Vashi comes and goes throughout the city and palace at will. He’s upset and unhappy about what is happening to the conquered people in the city and speaks of it frequently to his friend. His meeting with Bastian wasn’t planned and they certainly should have never become involved, but once Vashi comes into contact with the beautiful red-haired man he’s intrigued and entranced. He can’t forget him. It’s not long before his feelings toward the native population bring him to the attention of those in power and he finds himself in danger. Yet nothing can make him forget, deny or betray the man who he has come to desire and love. Not even his own safety.

The Devil You Know is a well written paranormal story with an intriguing concept of what happens to a magical prince and his kingdom after it’s conquered by a ruthless and brutal people, and who use its citizens as little more than whores and slaves. This idea is truly unique and original, and I appreciated the thoughts and planning that went into the plotline. Unfortunately, much of the story left me confused about where the story was going and what importance the various secondary characters were going to play. This was particularly true of the first portion of the book. It was only after the introduction of Vashi’s character that I started to get a feel of what was going on and why. I guess that it boils down to feeling that there was not enough contact between the two main characters to feel that they were a couple. It felt like they had been stuck together and not allowed to grow into any kind of a relationship. Thus, I had great difficulty in developing any kind of emotional attachment to them, which led to not caring what happened to them.

I was glad to see that there was a happily-ever-after at the end, and that Bastien and Vashi managed to survive the rebellion to take back the city and replace Bastien on the throne. There were a couple of interesting bad guys in the form of Bastian’s ‘possessed’ uncle and the ruthless Lord Protector of the city that were excellent foils to the plot.

The first time 22 year old Jeremy meets his Art History professor Peter Foster he falls in love with him and confirms what he has always suspected, that he is gay. Peter, at 36, is conflicted about his feelings for Jeremy and, in addition, is trying to get out of a marriage with a woman whom he married one night when he was drunk.

When Peter and Jeremy connect, the sex between them is explosive. The added dimension of secrecy due, to Peter’s position as Jeremy’s professor, heightens the tensions between them emotionally and sexually, which makes for some really steamy and risky encounters.

To add another complication, Jeremy is a very good looking man, and he has to fend off the attentions of the women on campus who want to end up in his bed. Eventually one of them “outs” him and he has to admit his homosexuality to his roommate Kevin, despite his concern that Kevin may no longer want to be his friend.

This is a coming-of-age story for Jeremy who has to make some major decisions about what he wants out of life. He and Peter really love each other, but with the age gap they have to overcome the usual challenges of being in a different place in time. There are family conflicts involving Jeremy’s parents who have their own troubles, which do not appear to add anything to the story. I found some parts of this book distracting, particularly the considerable amount of detail about mundane family events. As a fan of G.A. Hauser I was disappointed in the story which did not hold my interest, and this may be because of the supporting characters.

Teacher’s Pet may be a pleasant read for someone who enjoys the genre.
