Bryan just celebrated his nineteenth birthday and received a gift from his guardian that is not only priceless but rich in historical value as well. Bryan has never met his guardian, yet dreams of him and swears he has felt him there in his room as he drifts off to sleep. After his guardian arranges a meeting for him with a well known violin instructor, he’s even more determined than ever to meet him and comprises a plan to sneak into the man’s gated home.

Jaden St. Ives is Bryan’s guardian and has, what he believes, are good reasons for staying away from him. Even so he has always watched over Bryan and done whatever he could to make sure all opportunities were available for him. When Bryan succeeds in getting into his home Jaden isn’t upset; in fact he’s more than happy to finally have the opportunity to introduce himself to the young man.

Once Bryan meets Jaden many mysteries are resolved for him and he begins to understand why he’s dreamed of this man for so long. Soon after arriving and with the consent of his guardian, Bryan moves in and quickly finds he has an endless hungering need for Jaden. Wanting Bryan just as much, Jaden continuously finds ways to show him and when Bryan admits to being in love with his guardian, Jaden is happier than he’s ever been. Will Jaden be able to forgive himself for past mistakes and accept he has the right to be happy as much as anyone?

The Guardian is a beautiful and at times poetic love story. Bryan is a truly wonderful and self assured character who is as perfect for Jaden as Jaden is for him. Shayne Carmichael has created a setting with an almost ethereal quality and I came away feeling privileged to have had a look inside. I highly recommend The Guardian not only to fans of the m/m genre, but to any one looking for a first-rate love story.
