Luka is a descendent of the original vampire family, better known as a Trueblood…and one of the few vampires still able to procreate. In order to hide what he is, he hides in plain sight. As the owner/operator of a gay nightclub, he pretends to be a gay in order to avoid sex with female vampires and the threat of death if he has a child. That doesn’t stop someone from discovering his true identity, or prevent him from being kidnapped in order to get his fertile sperm. It also doesn’t stop him from being strung up in chains, or tortured for what he won’t willingly give…his seed/ his child.

Chloe is a young marketing executive who wins a consolation prize to Sunset Spa, after her well-deserved promotion is given to a man in her department, her ex-boyfriend. It’s not long before she discovers that this high-priced, exclusive spa is located in her childhood home at Washburn Hall, a place where everyone in her family, except her, was killed in a boiler explosion. There are too many strange things going on to make her comfortable, and it only gets worse when she finds that the spa is dead during the daytime hours, because all the clients are vampires. Things change from strange to bizarre when she starts exploring the secret passages of her childhood home and finds a gorgeous, naked man chained to the wall.

The Consolation Prize is a dark and creative look into the world of vampires and humans. Ms. Elsborg’s unique plot twist at making our hero Luka, a trueblood vampire, caught my attention from the beginning and left me wondering what was going to happen next as I read further into her well-written tale. There’s plenty to keep your interest as Luka and Chloe fight their way to love and happiness; a kidnapping, violence with scenes of torture, the rape of Luka, a frightening escape, and a terrible misunderstanding that nearly destroys their relationship and almost ends Chloe’s life. This tale of love is not your typical story of wine, rose and good-times…no it’s a difficult journey of forgiveness, second chances and love everlasting if given half a chance. I could be wrong, but the ending left me feeling like we’d be seeing more of Luka, Chloe and their family in another story in the future.

Yes, more to come of Luka's family. The next story about Alek is out soon with Loose ID and I've submitted the third about their sister, Erin, a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks so much for the review!!!
