The year is 1961 and vampire Gideon Keel is anticipating kicking off a bloodbath. He has an iron hold on Chicago and that is why he is feared by humans and vampires. In over sixty years, not one individual has come close to killing him. This streak ends the night he walks into a church meeting.

Civil rights activist Mary Straughn is in the middle of a church meeting when a stranger walks into her church and challenges her. She figured they would cross paths again, since the stake she plunged into his back didn’t kill him. However, Mary didn’t expect to visit Gideon’s apartment, of her own free will, and ask him for help.

Gideon agrees to assist Mary track down the vampires who murdered some local girls, but only under one condition. After it was all over, she had to spend one night with him.

Two different worlds met, merged and made me melt in At the Advent of Dusk. The pull between Gideon and Mary conjured up so many emotions I am still reading their story in my head. I love the fact that you see Gideon wrestling between doing what is right and what he feels compelled to do as a vampire. Mary is the kind of character who is hard enough to be viewed as a leader, but still soft enough to represent every woman. Thank you Craig for the passionate trip into your world. Now that I’m here, I plan to apply for residency.
