Diana lives a mercenary’s life. She is a fighter by nature and an instigator by habit. While trying to recover what has been stolen from her, Diana and her best friend Gala are abducted by men with hair as white as fresh snow and obsidian skin that glistens. They awaken in the underground kingdom of the raedjour. That was a horrible discovery all its own. But the news that they are expected to bed every man until they find their truemate is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Diana has decided to fight this change tooth and nail and has attracted the attention of Commander Salin.

Salin is a man known for refusing to take the easy road. And from what he has heard of Diana, conquering her will be no easy task to perform. Salin decides to be give Diana something none of her past lovers did: a choice. He wants her as a willing lover because he knows that Diana is indeed his truemate. Deeply rooted pain from her past is the reason Diana can’t accept his declaration of love. Will Salin and Diana find a way to get past the walls she has strategically build around her heart?

Taken is the first book in Jet Mykles' Dark Elves series. Diana is strong and determined. She comes out fighting regardless of the situation. Her strength and determination attract Salin as much as her beauty. But she has had years to condition herself into thinking she is not worthy of love. Salin hasn’t put an overwhelming amount of effort into finding a truemate until he spies Diana. He is powerful inside and out, but wants to know her love is given freely and not under duress. The story was wonderfully written and the sex was explosive. I will admit I was quite angered by the position Diana and Gala were put in but seeing her happy and content made up for that in the end. Jet Mykles has a wonderful writing style. Those who enjoy the genre will be glad they picked up a copy of Taken.
