Bethany has been lost to IIyria since her mother fled after civil war tore the world apart. She is the Matched Mate to Wyc Kilth, one of the heirs to the five royal families. The royal families and the Matched Mates are descendants of the Mystics and in order to save IIyria, the children of the Matched Mates will have to come to a pact.
Wyc finds Bethany and as he tries to explain about their matching, Bethany is constantly under attack by the Sleht. The Sleht will either kidnap her or kill her, depending on her status as a fully mated female or not.
Bethany’s Rite is a wonderful look at a society’s mating rites. As you learn more about the world that Ms. Jameson has created, you have an appreciation of the insecurities of both men and women within a relationship. The sex between Bethany and Wyc requires lots of ice and cold showers. I could not stop reading this book and stayed up late to finish this in one day. I am looking forward to reading the next book about the IIyrians.
