Archaeologist Ian Grayson is desperate to get home to Chicago with the artifact he found in Central America. Ian is being chased by dangerous people who are intent on stealing the treasure. However, things take a turn for the better when Ian meets Over-the-road driver Mackenzie Wallace in a San Marcos truck stop. Not only does Mac give Ian a ride north, he becomes Ian’s protector and lover.

The Hitchhiker is the first book in the Tomcat series. This is a well written captivating plot of modern day treasure hunting. The setting is a road trip from Texas to Illinois, interwoven with cultural history surrounding the artifact. The characters are developed, highlighting the personality traits of the main characters as well as the main perpetrators. Ian is an honest, intelligent man with a natural talent for his chosen profession. His motivation for treasure hunting is academic, rather than greed, along with restoring creditability to his family’s name. Because of these views, Ian became the target for betrayal. Upon meeting, Ian is immediately attracted to Mac, although he is cautious about revealing his sexual desires. In a very short time, Ian grows to love Mac. More than just a truck driver, Mac is a former naval pilot. He has good instincts when it comes to sizing up people and potentially dangerous situations. He is immediately drawn to Ian, who inspires Mac to want to protect him. Mac worries that Ian will reject the intimacy he desires, but Ian quickly reveals he too wants a relationship between them. Ian and Mac are well matched in their personalities and fit comfortably together.

The very talented Stevie Woods has created a most enjoyable beginning to this series. The storyline holds your interest. The characters are realistic and the love scenes are fantastic. I look forward to the next episode in this thrilling series.
