College student Mark Matheson supplements his income by cleaning houses. Mark meets Aaron Culver when he is hired to clean Aaron’s apartment. Days before graduation, Mark lands an entry level journalist job at the newspaper office and is looking for an apartment. Aaron owns apartment complexes plus has an available apartment above his own. The only problem is that Mark has a serious attraction to Aaron. Conversely, Mark is not the only one faced with temptation.

The Landlord is an emotionally charged relationship between not-quite-believable characters. The premise is that Mark and Aaron are confused about their sexuality; however Aaron’s character does not support this assertion. Mark is an extremely shy man who thinks he may be gay but isn’t altogether sure until he has interactions with Aaron. Because of his timid personality, Mark meekly follows Aaron’s directives, as well as runs from problems rather than deal with the issues.

Aaron has a narcissistic personality. He presents a successful, well-dressed businessman image to his clients, yet he is content to live in a dirty apartment, paying others to clean up his mess. Aaron’s sexual activities are careless, having unprotected sex with his girlfriend the night after sex with Mark. It is only the loss of Mark’s convenient housekeeping and available intimacy, along with facing future parental duties, that prompts Aaron to reveal the truth to his girlfriend, along with making an appeal for Mark’s return.

Jeff Erno has created a pleasant story with a mild BDSM overtone plot.
