Dan Anderson temporally moved home to revive the family house so it could be put up for sale. Dan’s mother had moved into a retirement community and is happy with her new life there. Recently divorced after a ten year platonic marriage, Dan’s life takes a pleasurable turn when he meets the new neighbors, Brendan and Jaden along with their friend Ethan Marshall. Dan and Ethan immediately become friends, emerging into a loving relationship months later.

Unexpected Guest is the captivating sequel to Patient Eyes. The well paced plot is set in Virginia. The developed characters are charismatic. Dan is still haunted by the emotional turmoil of his high school years. However, after becoming friends with Ethan, Dan is determined to put his painful past behind him. Dan’s marriage was a shield he used to hide his true sexuality. Dan was considered an excellent employee until his boss discovered Dan is gay and the narrow-mindedness of a few threatened his career in the IT department at the area hospital. Ethan is attracted to Dan upon their first meeting. However, Ethan is uncertain whether Dan is gay or straight. Rather than push the issue, Ethan waits for Dan to reveal his nature. Ethan is very supportive of Dan in all things. Ethan and Dan’s easy camaraderie while remodeling Dan’s kitchen opens the way for them to steadily build the friendship into a passionate, exclusive relationship. The secondary characters are an enchanting addition to the storyline. The love scenes are exceptionally sensuous. The talented Andy Eisenberg has produced a heartwarming, incredible romance that I enjoyed immensely.
