Hunter has fallen in love with his best friend, which would be fine, if he were gay. When Hunter and Max go on vacation, they take the time to decide how they really feel for each other. Hunter soon realizes that falling in love with Max was the easy part; now he just needs to tell their friends.
Written in the first person, Boys of Summer is the story of two friends who have fallen in love. The only problem is that one of them has always been straight. As Hunter comes to terms with being gay, we are right there with him. Max's understanding of Hunter's fears, not of loving him but of coming out, are believable. The scene in which Hunter and Max come out to their friends was one of my favorite. This was a very enjoyable story with characters that the reader will care about right from the beginning.
