Police Detective Galen Traub’s job aboard the generational starship Lažna Zora takes a twist when he has to investigate the disappearance of his husband, Dayan Andrus. With little evidence and time ticking away, Galen’s top priority is finding the culprits and freeing his love.

Dayan is trapped, with no means to request help. His captors seemed set on having him under their control, with little regards to what he needs to survive. Will the two be united? Can Galen find his husband before it’s too late?

Maia Strong delivers a fascinating mystery to be solved in False Dawn. The unlikely culprits made Galen’s reaction to their identity believable. I have to admit I didn’t see it coming, and it’s nice not to be able to guess the bad guy for a change. We gain a great deal of input about their relationship through Dayan. From events that strengthened their bond over the years to the balance they bring to each other’s lives. The men make a wonderful couple. Galen is a realistic character with his flaws displayed for all to read. Even in Dayan’s weakest moment, his source of strength was the relationship he shares with Galen. Maia Strong adds details about the ship without overpowering us with information. It was just enough to set the stage and help me feel as if I was traveling amongst the stars with the characters.

I found False Dawn a refreshing change from most of the Sci-Fi stories I’m currently reading and would recommend it to those who enjoy the genre.
