Doctor Ian Grayson feels compelled to continue researching his uncle’s theories. This time, Ian and his lover Mac Wallace set off for the archaeological site of El Pilar, which is on the border of Belize and Guatemala. Ian is searching for an unusual crystal skull.

West of El Pilar is the third book in the Tomcat series. In this well written episode set in a Central American rain forest, the trek is full of dangers. However, Ian and Mac are prepared to deal with whatever they encounter. Ian feels he is neglecting Mac by spending so much time on research. However, Mac understands that confirmation of a theory is essential, in addition to one of Ian’s passions; Ian’s other passion is Mac. Together for three years, Ian still struggles with finding a balance between his work and time to express his love for Mac. The only concern Mac has is Ian exploring dig sites alone. Mac fully supports Ian’s work, so he travels with Ian to provide added protection.

The incredible Stevie Woods illustrates Ian and Mac as a well coordinated, extremely loving couple who are committed to their relationship. Each man supplies moral support, in addition to communicating thoughtfulness for each other’s well being. The site’s cultural history is fascinating. West of El Pilar is an impressive addition to the fantastic, as well as particularly enjoyable, Tomcat series.
