When Chloe Brandt had to come back to Southern Pass for her sister’s funeral, it was never to return to a life of abuse by her father who was drunk. Now that she knows that she still loves Reese there is nothing that will stand in her way of not showing him every waking hour of the day.
Reese Lloyd is a farmer working his land and always thinking about a woman who has left him for a better life in Lincoln. The fact that he wants nothing more but to have the woman of his dreams as his wife does not quickly change the feelings he has that she will leave him again, which causes a huge riff between them.
Heart Song is so nostalgic with references to the flappers and it’s wonderfully written by Julia Daniels. What she writes about is love, abuse and the reclaiming of life for two people who deserved some happiness. It was very interesting that Chloe’s sister Daisy never wrote her about what was going on in her life with Reese’s brother. There were more questions than answers for them after finding out about what was left for them by the couple after their untimely deaths. I knew that things would come to a head with her father’s abusive behavior eventually and the outcome did surprise me but will leave you wondering too about some of the actions taken.
