Lee Gibson tries very hard to lead a normal life, which is difficult considering she’s a witch with a penchant for leather, motorcycles, hunky men, and rough sex. One evening after riding into the woods, she comes across a gorgeous, but unusual man, who turns out to be a werewolf. The two indulge in a night of hot, passionate sex. After experiencing a bad break-up in the past, she doesn’t intend for their encounter to lead to anything except a one-night stand, but that doesn’t prevent her from thinking of the sexy werewolf at every turn.
Like every other werewolf he knows, RMCP Jeremy Blake has given up on the hope of finding one woman with which to spend the rest of his life. That is, until he comes across a sexy little witch standing in the middle of the woods. Unlike other women he’s been involved with in the past, this lovely woman embraces the dark and predatory side of his nature and actively encourages him to be rough and domineering. She’s the woman of his dreams and he’s not willing to let a little reluctance on her part stand in the way of their future happiness together.
In a Dark Embrace is a well-written paranormal story filled with passion and desire, and the intense physical/emotional attraction between Lee and Jeremy is believable and realistic. Yet there is something missing from this tale—no sense of attachment between the characters and the reader, which is unfortunate as this novel has so much potential. The desire that rages between our characters is seemingly the only thing that holds this story together since the suspense element plays such a minor part until the very end. Don’t get me wrong, I like Lee and Jeremy as individuals, and as a couple they are smoking hot, but her constant whining about not letting him get too close started to grate on my nerves after a while. Jeremy, on the other hand, I found endearing—after all, he was willing to give love between them a chance, and was expecting it to work out.
