After being violated, Merwenna dreams of having a man who will love her and assist with repairing the damage. Merwenna wants to move forward with her life and she knows this man will honor her and never do her harm.
The two meet when the Danes arrive at Chippenham fortress, in an attempt to capture the one who is capable of ending the war. What they find in the mist of conflict is a love that will stand the test of time.
Merwenna has endured what no human should have to live through. Being violated didn’t leave Merwenna frigid or extinguished her vibrant personality. Merwenna’s determination and grit would not allow this to occur, and I gained more respect for the character with each passing line. With the help of Erik, she learns the true beauty of lovemaking. Making no excuses for his past, Erik has decided to stop being the bearer of pain to women. When he meets Merwenna for the first time, his heart knows it found its home. His kindness towards Merwenna and placing her feelings above his own needs led me to love him just a little more. Rodine Dobeck has written an excellent period piece that encompasses what truly happened to women during that era. Barbarian's Bride has a storyline laced with action, suspense, treachery, and most importantly -- love. If you have a thing for warriors, kings, and damsels in distress then Barbarian's Bride is a book worth reading and keeping.
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of medieval warfare including rape.
