She had all but given up on the perfect man, so why is it she can’t forget the guy who came into the coffee shop where she works? When he turns up again in the same bar she chose to drown her sorrows in, she begins to think this is fate. However, she’s well aware that there are signs he might be trouble, so why won’t her body listen to what her brain is telling her? Something’s stopping her from letting go; maybe this time, things might be different…
Tell Me a Lie is a strong short story with believable characters and great chemistry between Ava and new man Ford. Ava’s boyfriend is always in the background, thanks to his bad treatment of her, but this story is really all about Ava and the possible future she has with this new guy. Intrigue and suspense builds nicely as we wonder who Ford is, what his deal is and if he’s really what Ava’s been looking for. The justification for the choices Ava makes based on a man she doesn’t know sometimes made me a little uncomfortable but her heartache makes her actions believable enough. The author does a good job of letting us see Ava’s inner conflict but this doesn’t last forever and it was very enjoyable to read Ava’s erotic fantasies become reality.
