Ashlei
has a crush on the new sheriff, but feels he isn’t interested in her. She also comes across as human, though she is
actually a non-shifter shifter. Seth gets tongue tied around Ashlei, but all that
changes after he is attacked during a hunt.
Haven: Rules
of Mating
was a fun book to read. As the first
book in the Haven series, it was full
of light-hearted moments, as well as a mystery subplot that will carry throughout
the series, though this showed up late in the story. Ashlei is resigned to live her life as the
‘mascot’ of the town and the constant matchmaking efforts of her mother. I thought she was well-balanced with the
exception of one area of her life which Seth changed.
Once
Seth made love to Ashlei, other single shifters decided it was okay to try to
date her, which caused some very ugly misunderstandings, due to rules within
this shifter society that Ms. Foxx created.
This also led to some very humorous situations later.
Ashlei’s
family and friends are interesting characters, and I can see where there will
be some very interesting stories in the future.
The mystery-suspense was very slowly revealed and gave just the barest
hint of what may come. I love a good
suspense story and this did frustrate me a little as I wanted more
details.
Be
aware that there are some rough scenes, but it is in keeping with the shifter
mating rules and relationships and was done very well in my opinion. The heat generated between Ashlei and Seth is
intense. Their relationship was not
always smooth, even at the end, which is more true to life than a lot of other
stories, but the resolution was done well.
This
series will have to be read in order if the mystery is any indication, but I am
looking forward to it.
