Alex
hoped that helping people in Africa would help him getting over the feelings he
has for his best friend. The only thing
Alex ended up doing, however, was becoming a hostage for a group of
rebels. After being freed, Alex heads
home, where he once again runs into Damian.
Truth and Beauty by Cassidy Ryan is a very
interesting story that is sure to hold your interest. The characters are interesting and total opposites. Alex comes from a loving family. While not exactly poor, his family has always
worked hard for what they have. Damian,
on the other hand, comes from a very rich family and while they have more money
than they can ever spend, the family lacks the closeness that Alex’s family
has. Not only do the men come from
different backgrounds, but their personalities are polar opposites. As I read this story, I wondered how the
author planned on bringing the two men together. While Alex has had feelings for Damian from
the beginning, Damian has always been straight and a bit of a player. Watching as Damian starts to realize that the
feelings he has for Alex are changing, or to be more precise, becoming clearer
to him for the first time was great.
While I thought there should have been more uncertainty between the two
men as their relationship evolved, I also liked that the author did not drag it
out forever.
Truth and Beauty also has some wonderful secondary
characters that play strong roles in the men’s story. There are some surprising turns in Truth and Beauty and while I was not
surprised by Damian’s father’s behavior, I wish he could have been dealt with
more strongly.
