Heart and Soul is the story of Mary & Laughtry’s journey for answers. They’ve both had their lives marked by Ray Blackhawk and I was thoroughly convinced at the impact Ray had on both characters. As I learned more about the power Ray held over them both, I needed answers too. Well defined characters lead me on a roller coaster of emotion, sometimes almost too intense for me to bear. Lust, hurt, betrayal and confusion are powerful tools that the author explores very well. There was a satisfying conclusion to their journey as characters start to understand the importance of each other in their lives and I was left with a sense of destiny playing its part; that people come into our lives for a reason. Both Mary & Laughtry want their relationship with Ray to be the anchor that keeps him close but it seems Ray is destined for higher things; things that are left unsaid. It made me wonder if these three characters’ destiny being entwined is a good thing or a bad thing and that’s the journey you’ll have to take as you decide for yourself.
