Sebastian ven Hester, the Captain of the ship Naurus, is a war-hero and decorated for it. He has faced just about everything except his own emotions. Recently divorced from his husband Kirk, he isn’t ready to take on a relationship; until one night with his pilot, Jason North. North and Seb have a night of passion but Seb ends it rather quickly, hurting North. North had a previous relationship with another member of the Naurus crew, Jatila Kan, the engineer. North thought it was just casual sex but Jati thought it was more. North had ended it, saying that there was someone else. Jati didn’t know it was their Captain.

The three of them have to face their worst enemy, the alien Karhal; a vicious creature that threatens to take their lives and the lives of their passengers. Despite their differences and the past, they have to work together to kill the Karhal before reaching their destination.

This was an interesting read though it did have its confusing points. I still don’t understand what the BRAIN is or even how the alien got onto the ship. There is no direct sex content though it is talked about, which is fine if you don’t want to read about the intercourse itself. This book is great if you are interested in blow-them-up sci-fi stories. I found the love triangle a great hook because I thought it was going to be more than it was. It was a nice surprise.
