Lady Fortuna Morley has made a sound plan for herself and her cousin, to be spinsters for the rest of their lives, living alone. This plan develops a lot of holes in it when her cousin becomes infatuated with Charles’ friend and they end up engaged. Now Fortuna wants to run away and lick her wounds without anyone knowing what her true feelings are for him.

Charles Lowden, Marquess of Grandville has come of age, and he needs to fulfill his family obligations of finding a wife and filling his nursery with children so he can get on with his life. The only problem is that he can’t seem to show any warmth toward others that is until he comes upon Lady Fortuna, who shows him her contempt. When he realizes that she has given him every reason to live, there is nothing he won’t do to have her at his side forever.

Blind Fortune is a fabulous story set in England in the early eighteen hundreds and I really enjoyed reading every page. I was very impressed by the fact that Fortune’s blindness never stopped her from trying to carry on with a somewhat normal life. Her family would not accept her efforts to not be a burden on them and treated her as an invalid. Some of the characters had me wondering about their true motives, one being the cousin who was mostly nasty to Fortune and her uncle who wanted Charles for his youngest daughter because of the station it would elevate him to.

I was laughing, angry and overheated at one time or another by the actions of the ton and what others were doing that was not approved by the ton, and Fortune, who tried so hard to be like everyone else. Because of the high standards of English socialites any little thing that is not approved by them is scandalous at best. Joanna Waugh has done a wonderful job of writing about true love taking precedence over arranged marriages and overcoming all adversities presented to them.
