They have their personal and sex lives in order, Jeremy is getting the chance to be part of his own shop, and he’s just days away from graduation, when tragedy strikes. It’s up to their friends from The Hammer to support Simon while Jeremy heals, yet it won’t be enough if Simon is kept from helping the one he loves.
Forged is the second release in Sean Michael’s series, which revolves around the clientele of The Hammer. While some of the characters are in both releases, Forged can truly be read as a stand-alone novel.
Once again Mr. Michael has created two interesting and engaging male characters whose lives and personalities practically jump off the page. It was pleasant and unexpected to find Simon, our Dom, had been dumped by his previous sub. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen that problem expressed in a BDSM genre book, and I have to say, it left me feeling unexpectedly hopeful from the very beginning. Simon is made human and fallible from the very first pages, allowing him to grow in strength and conviction as his relationship with Jeremy develops. It isn’t all smooth sailing for this pair because Jeremy has his own problems to overcome, and frankly outside the bedroom, he’s not what I’d call submissive in his behavior. Yet these two find balance that makes their worlds gel, providing just what the other needs, including numerous hot love scenes which include ropes, plugs and sounds.
But I guess it’s the trust and understanding Simon and Jeremy have in each other and their life that propels this gem of a story forward. This is especially true after Jeremy is seriously injured. It’s only their bond that sustains them during the weeks of intensive rehab, and Mr. Michael does an outstanding job of describing these scenes without becoming gory or morbid. From a medical point of view the hospital and rehab scenes were nicely paced and very realistic in nature, allowing the readers into the pain, uncertainly, fear and denial, trauma patients and their loved ones experience during the injury and recuperation phase.
This reader is anxiously awaiting the next release in this well-written series. The next couple? It’s anybody’s guess, and I can’t wait to find out.
