Life changed for Griff Rieckert when a speeding vehicle struck him, shattering his knee in over twenty places. Now permanently disabled, the ex-FBI agent spends his days depressed and drinking too much, trying to dull the nearly overwhelming emotional and physical pain. It’s after a Tequila drinking binge that he wakes up in the bed of gorgeous pediatrician, Sean Avery.
As the relationship between the two men grows deeper, the depression, pain and frustration dogging Griff’s every step, lightens. He begins to piece his life back together and even think of a future which includes Sean, but all his hopes come crashing down when his lover’s life is threatened by an armed gunman.
Don’t let the short length of this story fool you. Re-Ignition by AR Moler is well-written, has a smooth flow and is packed with angst, passion, fear, threatened death, and hope for the future. I’ll admit it upfront, I liked Griff. There’s just something about the man; his alpha personality, his FBI background and the physical and emotional pain ruling his life that affected me deeply. Sean is just the kind of man Griff needs in his life; sincere, smart, sexy, kind and supportive.
The beginning scenes of Griff’s pain, and the developing personal relationship between he and Sean are very nicely done. But it’s those scenes in the later portion of the story where Sean is held at gun point that really caught my attention. They’re fast-paced and realistic, showcasing the talent of the author. I suggest you give this story a try; you won’t be sorry you did.
