Student Jacob Corvin’s schedule rotates between attending practice, going to work, keeping his grades up and playing college football. His agenda is set and he’s never allowed anything or anyone to break his concentration until he met Kristair.

Kristair is an ancient vampire with a serious dilemma. He is going into the final stages of a transformation as other ancients before him, and will not go quietly into the night. No, Kristair is ready to put up a decent battle.

When he sees Jacob, Kristair feels the instant attraction and knows he is the one who will help him slow down the process. While Kristair knows he doesn’t have time to waste, he is willing to forge the bond needed to help Jacob become his willing vessel. A young group of vampires called The Syndicate is set on Kristair joining them and threatens their new commitment. How far will they go to gain what they want?

Marguerite Labbe’s My Heart is Within You is the first volume of the Triquetra series and she definitely began with a bang. Kristair has lived long, but never truly loved hard until he meets Jacob. Jacob battled to get to his new station in life and he is too stubborn to give up anything he deems his without a fight. His fierce determination attracts Kristair and brings out some of the vampire’s submissive desires. This book took me by storm. The characters, from the primary to secondary, drew me in and kept my attention. The relationship between Kristair and Jacob hits you in degrees. Each man wants and needs something from the other, whether it is love, protection, guidance, loyalty or a strong commitment. When they finally give in, they form a relationship that can stand the test of time.

The plot and sub-plots have you rooting for the characters to gain the upper hand. Kristair needs to find a cure but never considered discovering love and the new emotions floor him. Jacob thinks all that matters is fulfilling his scholarship obligations, but discovering his feelings for Kristair opens a realm of possibilities. Their interaction, from lovemaking to fights to their banter, is exquisite to watch and flows naturally. Ms. Labbe includes action and suspense in the story, and enough fight scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat. There were points where I could smell the blood in the room and I covered one eye with a hand as if that could actually keep the goriness away. Mr. Ussier is one ruthless and witty supporting character, in particular, whom I am hoping to learn more about. The man definitely protected those he considered friends. Ms. Labbe unquestionably proved just how vivid her imagination was in a particular hot tub scene between Jacob and Kristair. Yes, she is definitely going on my list of authors I watch for future releases. I loved reading My Heart is Within You and recommend it to those who enjoy the genre.
