Maverick “Mav” Holms rooms with his best friend of four years, Daniel “Duke” Warren. They’re both on the cusp of graduating college, and they’re both intensely competitive teammates on the college soccer team. So it’s not so much of a surprise when Duke challenges Mav on a game of ‘gay chicken’. The whole point is to see how close one guy can get to the other – the first one to pull away is the loser. This time should be no different… but it is.
Now Mav’s struggling to face the facts: why the thought of other guys doesn’t do a thing for him, but one look at Duke has him hard as a rock. Not to mention the fact that one of their fellow teammates, Enslow, is a homophobe to the umpteenth degree.
When push comes to shove for Mav, he makes the biggest mistake of his life. Now he has to fix it… but how?
Str8te Boys is a sexy, sensual, intense read guaranteed to tug at your heart. Both men are incredibly gorgeous and together, they’re scorching, even in their explorations. (Or maybe because of them.)
Mav’s resistance and confusion are normal, especially for a young man who’s still trying to figure his life out. His love for Duke, though, even when he insists on it being solely platonic, is breathtaking. Duke’s devotion to Mav is just strong, and more than bittersweet.
I’ve read several books by Evangeline Anderson, and I love how she writes her men. While love does enter the equation (even verbally), it’s never flowery or fluffy. Her men are men and watching them together is hot and refreshing at the same time.
If you’ve never read any of her books, then I highly recommend starting with Str8te Boys. Though be forewarned: one won’t be enough.
