Four hundred B.C. - Zhong Shi, a young dragon is flying across the China sky in hopes that the humans would see how handsome he is with the sun shining on his red scales and green hair, groomed to perfection but when he pauses to preen, he is drenched by rain brought on by his lover, Chen Jing, who works hard to keep Zhong Shi out of trouble by directing his thoughts on more important things than vanity. Sadly, Zhong Shi’s hardest lesson is learning to live with regret.
San Francisco 2008 - Sebastian Crawford is searching for someone to interview for a school project when he meets David Peterson, an IT consultant starting a new business in the city. During their conversation, they discover they share some of the same interests. The more time Sebastian spends with David, the more Sebastian realizes he has nothing in common with his boyfriend Luke. After a big quarrel, Sebastian and Luke break up and David rushes to Sebastian’s apartment to comfort him. Fate steps in and triggers memories long forgotten but now it is David who leaves Sebastian.

Spikenard: Freedom to Fly is a story of love that transcends centuries. Winnie Jerome creates a clever plot that follows an intricate structure. The characters are well written with some emotionally touching moments. This is an impressive tale that I found particularly enjoyable.
