When American businesswoman, Chloe Sullivan, learns that a great-uncle she’s never met has left her his house and dilapidated castle, she takes a much needed vacation and travels to the Highlands of Scotland to check out her inheritance. When she arrives, she meets with a few surprises. Instead of her lawyer meeting her at the airport, she’s met by tall and sexy Malcolm MacTavish who drives her the several hours to the village where her uncle lived. But the biggest surprise is a real shocker which the lawyer could only reveal to her in person. To keep her inheritance from being sold on the auction block, Chloe must marry a Scotsman, and her ‘crazy’ uncle even goes so far as to suggest Malcolm.
Malcolm is recovering from a broken heart and he’s afraid to get close to Chloe, because she’s only going to be in Scotland for a short time. As much as he’d like to, he can’t deny his attraction to the beauty who ties him in knots every time he sees her. Spending time with her every day while he helps Chloe clean out her uncle’s house, or showing her the local sites of interest to tourists is a joy. He’d like to convince her to stay in Scotland…at least until he learns the odd stipulations of the will.
Where There’s a Will by Katriena Knights is an enjoyable contemporary romance set in the Highlands of Scotland and the author does an outstanding job of describing both the land and people of the area, including the enchanting Scottish accent. Others may feel using the correct dialect might be distracting, but I thought it only added character and authenticity to a well-written and paced piece. Ms. Knights created a story with intriguing characters and a unique plot concept revolving around the will stipulations that were so bizarre, I could almost see them happening in real life.
Chloe started off brusque, no-nonsense and straightforward, and it was a joy to see her change into a woman much more at ease and comfortable in her own skin. Malcolm was a doll, a man any woman would love to have in her life. Watching these individuals from opposite sides of the world find the way past their differences and into each other’s arms was a joy not to be missed.
