Brent Dunne may have gone on a men’s retreat to get in touch with his inner hero but when he encounters Joe Legere, his life is thrown into a whirlwind of lust, danger, mystery and just maybe - love. Brent’s wish to get to know Joe better might have come true but whether Brent is so accepting of the turmoil that follows Joe around is a matter for his heart to decide.
This premise had a lot going for it; the seemingly instant attraction and passion between Brent and Joe left me wanting much more. There is plenty of intrigue surrounding Joe’s life, plus interesting characters with a noticeable connection and the promise of an exciting conclusion but unfortunately, Blue Willows just isn’t given enough time to build anything substantial.
The story is written well, almost like a puzzle you have to piece together as you go. I actually enjoyed having to engage my brain to figure out what was going on, although I have to admit to the flash backs causing me some confusion. I just wish I had been given a little more depth to the characters and more time to believe the love these characters share. There is a mystical ending that was nice to read but again, no explanation. Maybe this was what the author wanted though; a plot full of intrigue and mystery that never is quite understood but is still pretty fun to go along with.
