Drake Edwards lost a child and the wife he adored about a year ago. He is doing the best he can, taking care of six-year-old Christy.
Neighbor Megan Lewis doesn’t date. She works in a bar and writes children’s books that she has not attempted to publish.
The child brings them together, and within days Drake has unloaded his full marital history and Megan has described the horror of her near gang rape in college. I found it hard to relate to these blabbermouths, who revealed almost all their secrets so early in the story, leaving no doubt as to the outcome.
Supporting characters include Drake’s minister brother Adam and jerky friend Art. Megan’s college friends and supporters Gwynne and Daryl seem more involved in her life than their own relationship. And the adorable child cements the relationship, believing her dead mother has sent Megan to make Daddy happy.
The sex is both hot and tender, but I never found these people believable. There was very little plot and way too much conversation explaining everything. I prefer it when my characters show me who they are, rather than continually telling me.
