Finn York was kidnapped and held captive by a crazed werewolf three months ago and nothing in his life has been the same since. The experience has left him angry and disgusted by any and all werewolves including his now converted, beloved sister, Billie. Yet, despite his ragged emotions he can’t stay away from the club, The Wulf’s Den, and it causes him to fight the attraction he feels for the beautiful werewolf waitress, Jocelyn. There’s just something about the female that arouses him, making him want to claim her for his own.
Jocelyn has worked as a waitress for nearly a year; since she moved out of her Uncle’s house and into an apartment of her own. She loves her job, enjoys her independence and like all werewolves, hopes to one day find her destined mate. Finn has been coming to the Wulf’s Den for months but lately, his scent confuses her. That is, until one night when she’s serving him drinks and the unexpected happens…he sniffs the air and growls at her, just like a male werewolf does when he scents his mate. Finn might be disgusted by werewolves, but Jocelyn is one female who won’t give up on making her mate claim her as his own.
Mated to a Wolf is the fourth release that follows the lives of the werewolves who frequent The Wulf’s Den. Finn is a sad and angry man who would rather sit, drink and glare at his werewolf ‘enemies’ than get on with his life. He’s pushed everyone away, including his identical twin and his werewolf sister, and frankly at the beginning of this novella I didn’t like him or his attitude much. Instead of trying to make the best of his situation, he chose to drink and wallow in self-pity, and as well done and descriptive as this portion of the story was, I think Ms. Chenery might have overdone it a bit. Even when he claimed his mate, he was stilling acting like a jerk. It wasn’t until the final scenes involving Jocelyn’s uncle that he stopped moping, took responsibility for his mate and did what was necessary to keep her safe. This was the moment I could say…finally, he’s a worthy hero, and it ended the story on a positive note regarding his character.
Jocelyn, on the other hand, was a darling and I liked her from the beginning, so much so I was often wondering why she didn’t just forget about Finn, mate or not. Still, there was no denying their attraction, both physically and emotionally, and the mate bond and what it means won out in the end…thank god, despite Finn’s stubbornness.
It was great seeing the secondary characters from the first three books and how they were placed in this release. Jocelyn’s uncle made the perfect villain and when he was captured and forced to submit, I wanted to cheer. I just wish this scene in the story had been a little longer and more developed.
