Jessa, a Stepford Wife, has trained herself through out her 19-year marriage to be the perfect society wife. Belonging to all the right clubs, having all the right friends, and sitting on all the right charity boards. Being the perfect society wife came with the obligation of turning one’s head when her perfect society husband would find comfort and satisfaction in another woman’s bed.

Jessa’s world came crashing down when her husband of 19 years dropped the bombshell of all time. He was leaving her for his mistress and her kids. Jessa couldn’t carry pregnancies full term and after three miscarriages, she concluded that she would never be able to give her husband, Will, the family he so desired. So she let him go, realizing that it didn’t really bother her. Had she ever been in love with her husband?

In this realization, Jessa sets out on an adventure to find her true self. Can a society wife be made over into whom she truly was, even if she didn’t know it herself? Who would have known that a seedy bar named Phoenix Rising would hold those answers for her.

Connor, an ex-convict and bar owner had more guards around his emotions than Fort Knox. After the love of his life lied to him and got him put in prison, he swore off relationships for all time. The occasional romp in the office with a random girl from his bar was all he would ever commit.

His world was turned upside down when a prim and proper woman walked into his bar. His bartender hired her as a server and slowly his emotional guards began to fall. His primal instincts to protect and keep this woman close both confused an angered him. Who would have known that a prim and proper woman would be his downfall.

Phoenix Rising was written with extreme talent. The characters jumped off the page into my head with no-holds-barred. They would not let me go; I had to finish the book with no exceptions. The sex was hotter than hot; I believe I was reborn out of my own ashes multiple times during the whole read. This bar is my kind of place and I was tempted to go hunting it down. I recommend this read to everybody, and will recommend it for many years to come. Kaitlin Maitland is on my list of authors to watch out for; I am looking forward to her next great book.
